Best 1st level adventure out there

First Post
Hi,

I'm a DM starting it over again with my group of players and I was wondering which adventure, be it a PDF, a D20 product, a freebie etc. was the best you've seen so far for a starting group of adventurers?

After days of reading reviews (And still being undecided), I thought I would ask.

I started a similar thread a while ago for the same reason and got many good responses. The one suggestion that I followed was Death in Freeport. Personally, I can recommend this over the Sunless Citadel which while good is not as good as the Green Ronin Product. Death in Freeport is really well supported and does not suffer in terms of 3.0 or 3.5 - although you can look at changing some things.

I suppose it all depends what your overall campaign world is and where you want to go afterwards. I used this in my homebrew and have followed it up with Forge of Fury and The Banewarrens.

Best Regards

I like Whispering Woodwind. It's a pdf by Creative mountain. I've ran it once and I thought it flowed well, had good encounters, plenty of role playing, and many things to expand upon.

Necromancer Games' Crucible of Freya has been the best beginning d20 module I've run (especially if you throw in the mini-prequel The Wizard's Amulet and all of the bonus material available on their website). Second-favorite beginning adventure for 3.xE so far is Return to the Keep on the Borderlands (converted for 3.xE). I just got Lost City of Barakus (again by Necromancer Games) and am very eager to try it out, but haven't studied it in depth enough to recommend it yet.

What style of game do you want? Traditional dungeon crawl, more RP focused, what?

In 3E, Sunless Citdael is good for a fairly traditional adventure; Whispering Woodwind a great adventure with a little more RP focus. There are some good short free adventures at the WOTC site (Burning Plague comes to mind), and "The Wizard's Amulet" is another good free pdf, available from Necromancer Games.

I've heard both "oO Sound Mind" and "Nemore's Vault" are great, but I've not read or played either one.

My favorites are actually 1E or BD&D adventures: T1 Village of Hommlet, B2 Keep on the Borderlands, and B4 The Lost City, but you'd have to buy the pdf and get a conversion to use those.
