Best 1st level adventure out there

I was wondering when someone was going to mention Witchfire. I loved these modules and the setting...just wish Privateer would put out some more.

I'm having great experiences right now, DMing the Witchfire trilogy. That is a truly great set of modules. But if you are going to consider them, rmember they won't be as good unless you play through the entire trilogy (staring at level 1 ending at 7 or 8) and that the setting is a bit diferent from standard DnD. Check out Iron Kingdoms Website and Privateer Press Homepage for lots of info!

My vote is Dead Gods. It's the perfect adventure for first level characters.

Dead Gods is an awesome adventure, but it is written for 7th level characters, not first.

Anyways, I'll second votes of Of Sound Mind.

Nemorans vault does not give out 100's of 1,000's of gold pieces, unless maybe you count the rune sword. Otherwise, the main treasure is completely sealed off and inaccessible to such a low level party. Besides, they wouldn't even find it unless the DM holds their hand and leads them to it.

For those not up on their Karathis lore, there is actually a hint in a later module (Silver Summoning) about the location of the Rune Sword. This might leave the players scampering back to NeMoren's vault looking for the sword if they already went through that adventure.

I think it's sort of a neat little built-in easter egg, though I would be compelled to agree that it would be a problem if players got it the first time through.

Liar! Dead gods is the perfect adventure for any occasions. Epic game? Dead gods. One shot? Dead Gods. 1st level characters? Dead Gods? Dungeon Crawl? Dead Gods. Story-oriented? Dead Gods.

If I had to pick the best 1st level adventure, I'd have to go with the one and only "Keep on the Borderlands". However, I think the one I had the most fun with was B4: the Lost CIty. It wasn't all that great of an adventure, but it had priceless encounters with a bunch of goofy natives who lived in a total fantasy world. I DM'd this one, and had a great time bringing in the natives at every opportunity to befuddle the PCs with their outlandish behavior....
