Best 1st LVL Feat?

so everyone has a few more hitpoints each level, as far as bad rules I've seen worse.

I couldn't imagine not taking that feat, which is 3x as good as another, similar feat (improved toughness) published and up to 20x as good as the old one (though that's not the most useful feat out there). Feats like that are just too good.

If we make toughness 3hp/level, let's make weapon focus +1/level, skill fokus +2/level, dodge +1/level, spell focus +1/level, improved init +2/level, weapon spec +2/level, and a couple of other things like that. That way we could save a lot of space - everyone would take those feats first, so we don't need the rest. :p

That would be great though, we'd have less feats to worry about and all that wasted space in the new books could be saved..... ;)

A Rogue with a particularly high Dexterity and low Strength might want to consider Weapon Finesse, as attacking first doesn't necessarily mean that fate will be kind to your dice rolls.

A rogue lacks the required BAB to take Weapon Finesse at 1st level.

Note that Improved Initiative really only matters in the first round -- with cyclic initiative, after that (when no one is flatfooted) the benefit of high initiative is minimal.

So, while a great feat, it isn't a must-have. Thankfully, there isn't a must-have 1st level feat for everyone -- it means the system is well designed.

...(And when we're talking stuff that you get from magic items: Glove of storing. Draw AND sheathe your weapon as a free action. Better than Quick Draw in most situations, unless you need several weapons)...

Wow. I hadn't considered that. Guess I'll be keeping these funky gloves after all. :) When I saw the cost when adding up my char wealth, it didn't occur to me that these were worth the equivilant of a feat.

Imp init is one of the best...

Ive seen it argued by some that say "I dont waste my time with imp init. Im gonna get the same amount of attacks in anyways" Well I have to argue vs. that. Getting the first blow in on your enemy is the purpose of any and every combat...I really dont see a logical opposition to this. But I know its out there!
