I've decided to get into some 3-D modeling if I decide to do any future Star Wars fan films, or other animation, and I was wondering what program has/is best/cheapest/best value?

A fun program that I found while wandering the internet the other day is SmoothTeddy. The program is weritten in Java and runs without installation. Admittadly it is more of a 3D doodling program, but it is a fun way to get your feet wet regarding 3D modeling.

Enjoy!

Not sure how much you want to get into it...

Maya has been used for animation in movies.

I would recommend Bryce for a new user, as you can start out doing a lot, and quickly. It may take you a while to create detailed 3D items, and add to them, but it will put you beyond the basics for creation.
