Best Adventure for 1st Level PCs?

The Whispering Cairn is good but deadly as is much of the Age of Worms path. Just a caveat. I started my pcs at 2nd level and nearly had multiple pc deaths.

Going to agree with this. My PC's (6 of them) are in their third session of the W.C. dungeon and the only reason they are still alive is because of our use of "action points". Using action points has saved the lives of nearly every player.

This module is awesome, but hard-core.

Picked Up The Adventure Begins

So many rave reviews, I couldn't help but pick it up at the bookstore this morning. I'm sure I'll enjoy reading it, but I have a habit of buying something, saying "Yeah, I'll run this" then the next cool adventure comes along...

Re: Whispering Cairn. I don't want to kill the PCs, sounds like I should stay away from this one.

Re: Transmuter's Last Touch. Is this for PCs after 1st level? Is it a Dungeon Crawl Classic?

a copy of The Adventure Begins for me, so I can check it out later today. From Goodman Games website description, it looks like 2 or 3 of the adventures in it would be perfect for what I have in mind.
That was my bittersweet conclusion as well--there's a gaggle of terrific small adventures that can be strung together with little effort to make a fun campain...but what gets cut, and what stays?

Decisions, decisions...

The great thing about the book is that you can skim the basic plot of a few adventures, and then use them as rumors to start quick side-quests. Oh, the players like the idea of investigating rumor #2? OK, here's the entire adventure, ready to go with maps and villains--just slot it into your own setting. Very cool.

Really? At one of the big Living Greyhawk conventions a few months back a group of about 30 of us came to a consensus that this was one of the top 3 worst modules in the last year. I figured it was pretty much universally maligned. To each his own though...

My recommendations:

The Crucible of Freya: Not 3.5, but there shouldn't be enough differences to really matter. A great adventure from Necromancer which I used to start off two seperate campaigns. Great fun!

Anything by Goodman Games: You really can't go wrong.

You're the first poster that I have seen to say something bad about it. Personally I really liked Mad God's Key. I have only read it though so it may read a lot better than it actually plays.

Into the Wilds (DCC #29) and Legends are Made, Not Born (DCC#0) from Goodman Games both look good.

Idylls of the Rat King (DCC #1) is supposedly a classic from them, but I don't get it as much.

Spoiler Alert

I'm thinking of using Into the Wilds, minus the cannibals in the wood . . . they don't "fit" and the rules for them are outright weird.

For 3e D&D, I would recommend:

DCC0 -- Legends are Made, Not Born
DCC2 -- The Lost Vault of Tsathzar Rho
DCC28 -- Into the Wilds
DCC29 -- The Adventure Begins

I've only used DCC2 myself (I used a modified version of it to start my last 3e campaign 2 years ago), and highly recommend it.

Although it is big and expensive, DCC29 is a great resource. Filled with many nice adventures, most of which can be 'toughened up' for higher-level parties.
