Best Campaign Setting(s) & ENnies Nominations

Wisdom Penalty

First Post
i was wondering if there's a list of what products were submitted for ennies consideration? in particular i was wondering if the following campaign settings were up for consideration this year (many are probably too old; please enlighten me):

nyambe
dawnforge
arcanis
blackmoor
oathbound
kalamar
scarred lands

im a campaign setting addict (i steal and plunder from them all) and am looking for my next purchase. i love the D&D ones up for an ennie (black company and valus, not interested in iron kingdoms) and was now wondering what my next purchase should be. since the ennie judges seem to know their stuff and i respect their taste, im perfectly happy to be a lemming and pick a setting that has previously been nominated or just missed out to black company and valus.

thanks

No, there's generally no list of what was submitted. All of the ones mentioned, possibly with the exception of Blackmoor, were published prior to this year's ENnies submission period, I believe (some by several years).

Nyambe, Kalamar, Dawnforge, Oathbound and Scarred Lands are all too old to have been considered this year, although I'm sure they were considered in years past. You may still be able to find some steals on the Scarred Lands stuff since the setting has been discontinued. Not sure on Arcanis and Blackmoor.

Arcanis is also a very old setting (as far as d20 goes). Dawnforge won the golden ENnie 2004. As has been said before, the only "newer" setting in the list is Blackmoor (although it's actually the oldest ;)).

Oathbound had a nomination one year. I think Midnight beat it out that year. A new supplement for Oathbound will be at Gen Con called Wildwood. ;)

I like Nyambe and Valus very much. Of the two, I would take Valus simply because I think it lends itself to traditional adventure better. Nyambe is a better setting to toss in halfway through the campaign as an exploration area.

I have heard many positive things about Oathbound, though I have yet to buy a book.

I like my Scarred Lands books, but you can't just buy one book and be done. My big probelm with Hollowfaust, even though I enjoy it very much, is that you need a supporting monster book to understand who the bad guys are.

Also -- and realize that I have an agenda here -- Murchad's Legacy is up for "best writing". It's a solid campaign setting and you really do get quite a bit for your gaming dollar. I won't say how it compares to Valus simply because I think the two products are written with very different ends, however I would point out that ... ahem ... mine's bigger.

yeah, yeah, yeah, it's not the size of the setting, it's how you use it. Whatever.

this is the way (using nyambe as an exploration/foreign) area i would do it, too. im planning on using valus clerical system and pantheon, but will probably use midnight's map. though i must admit, your murchad's legacy map is sweet. ive penciled you in on my list of things to pick up.

thanks again, all, for the info!
