Best Christmas films

One of my favourite Christmas movies is Klaus on Netflix, I'd be watching it again if I still had access. It's quite a touching movie with some real heartfelt moments, some of which made me a bit tearful.

For Christmas fun, the Christmas Chronicles were great, thouroughly enjoyed them.

I remember enjoying the Santa Clause, I wouldn't mind watching it again to see how it holds up.

I have issues, mainly due to the quick forgiving of Scott for basically violating a court agreement/kidnapping Charlie among other things.

I love the echo from the beginning and end:

“What am I gonna do? Spend the rest of my life in this tiny town? Surrounded by crazy people? Never wanting anything more?”

And of course:

“And once every year, I get to see my friend.”

I would disagree about Miracle on 34th St - it’s important that Kringle claims to be Santa Claus, because in the US at least there are few folkloric characters with quite the commercial penetration and cultural clout that Santa has. He couldn’t claim to be the Easter Bunny because he’s not a rabbit, and there’s just not as much cultural and commercial baggage associated with the character.

OK, then a Times Square Spider-Man declares that he's the real Spider-Man. I think we can agree he's got more cultural weight than the Easter Bunny.

By that definition, there are almost no Christmas movies.

Miracle on 34th Street is just a movie about whether or not the courts recognize a possibly mentally ill man's claim to be a beloved fictional character. The movie would be functionally the same if it was about the Easter Bunny, not Santa Claus.

It’s not a binary thing though. It, like nearly everything in life, is a scale. We’ll all argue where the line on that scale falls for us personally, and that’s as good as we can hope for.
