Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim: watched this every Christmas Eve growing up, so it's entangled with Christmas memories and tradition.
It is a classic, but watching it again recently made me realise how much histrionic screaming is in it (Hordern and Sim) and that’s less great. Seeing young George Cole and Patrick Macnee is fun.

My kids display a shocking ignorance of the Christmas Carol. Strongly considering pitching The Muppet Christmas Carol as their entry point.
They are fortunate to have managed to avoid it for so long!

But you might try reading it to them yourself. The thing the Muppet version gets right that every other version gets wrong is the importance of the narrative voice.

“Hey kids, do you want to watch four ghosts brutally traumatise a rich guy into sharing? Also, the question that you always wanted answered - what happens when a frog has kids with a rabbit?”
My Eng Lit major partner considers a Christmas Carol to be anti-Semitic. The reason Scrooge doesn’t celebrate Christmas (and remember he was left at boarding school as a child) is he is Jewish.
