That's the best Christmas film for you? I mean, I believe you, but also, wow!
Id put it on an easily rewatchable list, alongside Die Hard.
So it is subjective and depends on if best is a measure of production quality or general enjoyability

We didn't grow up on the Rankin and Bass specials, my mom found the animation creepy or something, but my favourite special that I don't see a lot of love for is the Will Vinton Claymation Christmas Special. What more could one want, music, two bickering dinosaurs as hosts, and the California Raisins? Sure ... not the biggest fan of the fat jokes, but still a fun watch.

We just watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Most of my family members like it, including my kid, but I really hate that film. Chevy Chase just comes off like a clueless jerk (honestly, what do his neighbours do to deserve everything he does to them?), the jokes are all dumb, most of the comedy is telegraphed pratfalls while Chase mugs, and it looks like it was shot by an amateur. For me, it's like an anti-Xmas film.

Red One. Watched it for a second time this year and we liked it even more. I don't care it bombed and got bad reviews.

Watched it this evening and honestly, it’s a lot better than I expected - it’s consistent and well thought out, and has a solid emotional core. I’m not entirely happy with the very corporate and technological version of Santa and the North Pole - Santa is basically a billionaire VIP with government connections, which sort of makes sense for the plot, and J K Simmons makes it work - but I see why they’re like that. The version of Krampus works well, and it’s good that Gryla and the Yule Lads are actually genuinely derived from Icelandic folklore. Even the shrinking technology makes perfect sense in context.

Watched half of Hogfather, and while there’s a great cast and plot, it’s pretty clear that it sticks much too closely to the book. Also, whoever’s editing has almost no idea what they’re doing, cutting perfectly good scenes in half to jump between characters as if we can’t bear to watch more than three minutes of any particular setting. Someone desperately needs to go back and re-edit it into something watchable.

Honestly I always thought that was just the base American trope - clueless WASP, seems something of the SNL standard.*

* note I am not a fan of that kind of American comedy
