D&D 5E Best Dragon Sorcerer?

Just take an Elemental Spell and learn it as another Element (Fireball->Acidball, Cone fo Cold -> Cone of Thunder, etc.). As long as it is not somewhing special like radiant or force, the GM should have no objections to that.

That should make all Dragonborn-Types more useable and balanced.

Not really. Makes acid fir example the best.

Fire does the best on paper but offset by all tge fire resistant sand immune critters.

How does it make Acid the best? There might be less Monsters resistant to it, but your resistance also comes up less often.

Because spells like absorb elements exist. Or you get fire/poison resistance via race.
But that needs a spell known (for something that might not come up for several adventures) and multiple spells slots. So thats certainly not a given and without downsides.

It's far from optimal, but I've been poking around with the idea of using a poison-focused draconic sorcerer to represent a sorcerer with medusa ancestry. Poison Spray being the snakes in her hair spitting venom at her enemies. The natural armour thing works nicely in theme, and you can focus on spells like slow, hold person etc which kinda represent medusa powers until you can get the iconic Flesh to Stone.

Poison spells just stink though, and it's really hard to fix. There's hardly any of them, piles of critters are immune, and they almost always target Con which is very often a strong save.

IIRC correctly, in terms of best damage types in 5E, it goes like this:

1: Custard/Blueberry Damage. (Nothing IIRC in all of 5E has resistance to either of those. Flavor choice is up to caster preference in the end).

2: Force. (Rarely ANYTHING in 5E resists this).

3: Psychic.

4. Thunder.

Poison is generally agreed upon by all to be the worst damage type in 5E.

You missed radiant it's up there with force.
