Best First Level Module for New Players

Another vote for Wizard's Amulet/Crucible of Freya. I've used them along with the web supplements for CoF to run several fun little campaigns, and CoF as a stand alone campaign opener about half a dozen times now.

In fact, I'm seriously thinking about using it again for my new group in a couple of weeks.

I don't think I have ever done B1 for some reason. Might have to pick it up to take a look.
N4 I have but my problem with it is I want to give the players a homebase and the shipwreck does not do that.

I am really thinking Freeport or Goodman Games. I have heard a lot of good things about both and I think I could string a small campaign together with those.

Got some thinking to do and some reading...

I have always liked "A Dark and Stormy Knight" as an introductory module. Is is logical (why are we here again?), it has only a few encounters (good for when teaching new players if time is a factor), it has a trap, an outsider, undead, vermin and humanoids (good variety of types of encounters), and encourages roleplaying between the players. What it lacks is NPC interaction, though you could drop in one yourself very easily, and it's 1st level (so you can go through character generation and complete an entire adventure in a 4 hour game session).

edit: Dark and Stormy is one of the free ones at the WoTC download page. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20050329a

Fgor a very first game session I have never had a better experience that a Dark and Stormy night, by Owen Stephens. Its free at the wizards site

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20050329a

Wreck Ashore is also good, also free at Wizards

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20040430a

And its really easy to tie from wrech ashore to Bad light by Stephens again.

In fact I've successfully use the free wizard adventures to create a fre and easy adventure path, though I've only taken groups to about 14th level with those

A lot otehm have similar themes, and they're all pretty generic, amking them easy to port to any campaign setting, and tie together with recurring characters by makeing a few swaps between them. I went straight from fait Accompli by Stephens to Frigid demise by Monte cook with no trouble at all, though that's uo at 12th-13th level.

For one that hasn't been mentioned: the burning plague is another good, free adventure available from Wotc. It is short, and can be done in one sitting if you want.

I would check out "Of Sound Mind", I think it's one of the strongest low-level modules available (although there are more than a few listed here that I haven't looked at). While location based, it doesn't seem like your typical dungeon crawl, there's plenty of backstory and RP possibilities.

Plus it's just well written.
