Best free anti-virus software?

I've recently reformated one of my systems and want to use a free anti-virus program. What's the best one out there?

I used AVG's free version for a long time and found it quite good.

I've been very hapy with AVG for a while now. A friend who uses it had it stop an infection from getting to his system. Only time I've heard of it being needed, but it worked.

To me there is no better anti virus program out there right now
