Best Heroes game to start

Luckily, Blood of Heroes is the same sytsem, without the DC universe attached. Plus, it's had a few fixes/tweaks, including apparently-"fixed" gadget rules. [I say 'apparently' because i've never played DC Heroes/Blood of Heroes, only read them, so i'm going on other people's opinions here.] Blood of Heroes is pretty easy to find used, and i believe is still technically in print and can therefore be ordered. I'd recommend the "special edition", which is really a second edition, incorporating another 100 or so pages of content originally published as a supplement (Blood of Heroes Sidekick).

Yeah, you can get the Blood of Heroes at amazon

Its not with DC Heroes characters, of course, and the setting and npcs they have in the back of the book are pretty poor.

But it contains the MEGS gaming system that the "old" DC Heroes is famous for. Its a system that allows for customization of characters while still staying fast and uncomplicated. Its combat system is the most superheroic (you can use optional rules to "grittify" it if thats your thing) with titanic battles that you see in comic books. I like its experience/hero points over most other games, too.

Its by far the best overall system for superheroes i have played and i have played 20+ (not kidding!) of them over the years.

I'd be very suspicious of the 'new' copies as the game is technically not still in print currently, merely in circulation. After the Wizards Attic blowout in Fall of 2002 and the subsequent bankruptcy of Pulsar games, the company changed hands (or was, at least, in the process of doing so) but AFAIK, BoH has yet to see a new print run.

They have a lot let over from what i understand.

Someone i talked to tried to buy the license/game, but the guys who had it wanted them to buy all of their backstock of BOH/SS books. So...i gather that there is plenty of 'new' copies lying around. I bought my BOH copy about 3 months ago from Amazon. It was quite new and untouched.

What's that smell? I think it's a thread about to be engulfed in a flame war. Arguing over which supers game is better is rather stupid. There's no way to say anyone is right or wrong in a debate of OPINION, so let's not even start. Play the game you like and be happy to play it and be happy that other people have found a game they like as well. Yeesh.

Naw. I'm not going to get my feathers in a ruffle. Just stated my opinion and I'm done with it.

...and there is a reason for the MnM hoard. It's that good.

Actually, the reason for the M&M horde is because ENWorld's audience is tilted towards D&D/d20-based games, like M&M. If you ask the same question over on the Hero Games boards, you'll find a different horde. And on Forge, yet a different horde. And on rpg.net, about five different hordes. And so on. It's important to keep sample biases in mind.
