One old campaign that I was in had one of the players find a maul called "Glory". I don't recall it's exact powers but if I had to put it into 3rd edition terms, I'd say it was a +2 Thundering Axiomatic Large Warhammer.

Skrakk, a 1/2 orc barbarian/cleric of Tanil (CG nature goddess) had a 6 charisma. His mentor insisted that it was better to use sweet reason and gentle persuasion on foes than violence. Therefore he named his battle axe Sweet reason and his heavy mace Gentle persuasion.

God sometimes I miss playing him....

Dude, that is cool.

I am so jealous of its coolness, I am now inspired to come up with a witty idea like it for my character. :D

I once had a gnome bard who called his shortsword "Glimmerluck."

And another time I had a ice paragenasi cleric of Auril (cold goddess) who had an axe called "Winter's Bite." It had wind inscribed on one side of the blade and a wolf's head and teeth on the other.

Hmm.
  • Sevenheads. True name which noone in that campaign found out: Soliras. Minor artefact and big bad campaign weapon. Was a slender longsword with a huge ego, a good sense of humor, a bad sense of humor concerning traitors, many different funny abilities, a tendency not to talk with anyone and a baaad reputation because the last 7 pirate captains who wielded it got beheaded. Go figure. I loved that weapon. Worst ability: It's enhancement was +3. If it met a weapon with higher enhancement in melee, it started to drain magical abilities (worth 1d4 enhancement bonuses per round), it's own as well as the others... they recovered 1/day. I'm proud that a friend stole it and wrote a song about it which he used to introduce his group to a campaign with that blade ;)
  • Dragonbane. Not really a good or very special name... but it was a puny +1 dagger who killed one BBEG after the other (because most other weapons had been disabled all the time,.... bad DM!). After it was used to kill an adult green dragon, the player stuck with the name.
  • Batdagger. This is one of my favorite magical items, a dagger made from bone with a bat shaped handle. It drains hitpoints from the opponent... but never give it to an undead. When I first introduced it with a picture, all the players started to sing "Batmaaaaaan!"...
  • Fang, Claw and Thorn. Silly simple names for my barbarians sword, axe and bow. Was always nice to use them and react to the other players taunts.
  • Shamoriss. Elven bow with lightning abilities.
  • Mort. A hammer. The name was derived from the sound the player made all the time when he hit something, not that he ever said anything else during gametime... Italian for death.

In a Dungeon adventure, there was a githyanki castle in the Astral Plane that the party had to assault. It had two weapons of which I was rather fond (from reading, not playing :( ).

Worldwalker, a variant sword of the planes.

And Diamondedge, a stronger silver sword (githyanki sword, that is).

From Dragon, there was a katana that contained the soul of an oriental dragon. Can't remember the name, though, but it had abilities related to storms (for example, on drawing the blade, a thunderclap sounded; hit with it, and deal electrical damage; and so on).

I had a legendary sword of kings in my campaign which I named Narbondel, the Sword of Tüor (Tüor being the founder of the local dynasty, as well as a name stolen from Tolkien, I think). Narbondel just popped into my head out of nowhere (or so I thought at the time) and seemed like a good name for a sword. Later I realized that it was the name of the glowing timekeeping column in the main cavern of Menzoberranzan (drow city from Drizzt books), and then I was less impressed with it. :(

In my current campaign, one player has a dwarven figher named Angrim, who weilds a greataxe name Arnbrüdar, which is dwarvish for Breaker of Chains. It was so named because the first significant crit with it was scored against a kyton (chain devil) that the rest of the party was having much difficulty with because of DR.

One item that I created (okay, just tossed a few random thoughts together...) was three throwing daggers with a Metallic Dragon theme.

Each of them had an adamantine blade, with the appropriate metal etched into the blade (creating the shape of an adult dragon of that type).

All had the distance, returning, and keen abilities. Don't remember what I gave them in terms of an enhancement bonus, though.

(I know, the names are kind of hokey...)

Gildentongue: based on gold dragons, it also had flaming burst.

Argenteye: based on silver dragons, it also had icy burst.

Bronzeskin: based on bronze dragons, it also had shocking burst.

I was thinking of tossing in some minor abilities in line with the dragons' special abilities, but never really completed them...
