I bought Risk 2210AD some weeks ago, and it really rocks! The new rules and territories make it more fun than ever.

You can find a review of it here. It explains pretty much everything that's new in 2210.

Put in that list Diplomacy, Empire in Arms and Shogun.

Ah, "Empires in Arms", my unconsumated love...
How do you find anyone willing to play the full game of that; more importantly, how do you find 7 people...

In this tread I figured what a boardgame freak I am. I have played all games mentioned at least once and own about 70% of them...
freaky

I can't believe no one else has mentioned my all-time favourite boardgame: Knightmare Chess by Steve Jackson Games (translated from a French game). It's a great game. If you haven't tried it, you owe it to yourself to give it a go.

I also like Cosmic Encounters (which has already been mentioned on this thread).

In no paticular order: Talisman, Robo Rally, Cosmic Encounters, Civilization, Dark Conspiracy board game and Circus Maximus are all good games to play when you need some RPG downtime.

Go
Othello
Screwy-Word Scrabble (anything goes as long as you have a definition, double and triple word have to have really really good definitions. All other players vote to see if the definition is good enough)
Poker; specifically:
Texas Hold 'Em
Seven Card Stud
Five Card Draw, Hi-Lo split
Craps

Settlers of Catan

Settlers is frankly awesome and fun, if you haven't played it yet you owe yourself the chance to. Pick it up and next time your dm is missing, play Settlers instead of Billy-Bob's-Mega-Munchkin- Stand-In-Campaign. I like economic theme games so my runner up to settlers is Avalon Hill's Acquire, which can be quite intense at times. I also think Monopoly can have the same level of strategy, gamblins, and planning of the other games, but since most of us have been playing since we were 2 then we don't like it anymore...

I like Mage Knight, I appreciate being able to play mini's without having to paint all the damn things, and I think their rules are pretty elegant. Heroquest would be up there too. All things considered, Risk and A & A are pretty low on my list. Compared to things like squad leader, etc., they are less war games and more dice rolling contests......

I recently learned to play cribbage, which rocks.

Who doesnt fondly remember when Germany at last invades Russia !? 20 tanks + inf vs 40 Russian infantry.... ahhhh good times those... or when at last the reconstructed American Fleet comes for the Japanese navy ? Big battles and a lot of fallen planes...

More often than not the Russians got squished... nothing like a panzer army....

Or cheesy tactics like an American factory in China !!

AXIS and ALLIES ... so simple but fun.
