What was the name of the ship I wonder.
Shouldn't be too hard for an interested party to find out. How many Aircraft Carriers did the Royal Navy decommission in 2001 that were built during WWII by that specific manufacturer, loaned to Austrailia during 1953-55, and refitted on those specific dates. I do find it interesting that the vessel's name isn't mentioned anywhere.

The price doesn't seem all that high for what you are getting, but the usual EBay tag line of Shipping and handling:...Buyer pays for all shipping costs might be a bit pricy in this instance.

And ArthurQ, where would you keep it?

Did you guys notice that it actually had 5 bids.... !

I dont know who is bidding on that but they can come here and with some of their spare change buy me a car.

From what I've been able to find, the ship was HMAS Vengeance, and is currently in Brazil as the Minas Gerais.

I believe the current angle in the military channels is that the auction is a fraud.

I *believe* the ship in question actually HAS been decomissioned in the past year, but is scheduled to be refitted and returned to service in Brazil (although the original schedule had her in active service into next year), and is not scheduled for sale.

She has been replaced by the former French Carrier the Foch, which was purchased for roughly $12million , according to my sources (who may well be pulling this information out of their butts also).
