Best Zombie Flicks?

Angel Tarragon

Dawn Dragon
I am trying to put a list together of Zombie flicks that are good wholesome gory fun. Help me out; there are a lot of Zombie movies and not all of them are worth the scratch. Help me put together a list of those that are the cream of the crop.

Dawn of the Dead is fun.

Planet Terror (half of Grindhouse) isn't *quite* zombies, but it's fun zombie-esque action with people blowing up like water-balloons when shot. :D

I liked the Resident Evil movies.

28 Days Later was good. Haven't seen the sequel yet.

Shaun of the Dead, of course.

I liked I Am Legend, despite the ending.

Resident Evil is quite nice. The new Dawn of the Dead is good (but not quite as good as Romero's). I liked Planet Terror and Shaun of the Dead, too.

Legend was a lousy zombie-flick (but a good movie none the less).

It's complicated, but yes. I would call them vampires.

However, The Last Man on Earth, starring Vincent price is a better adaptation of the story and they are indeed more zombie like.

Any of the Romero films.

Shaun of the Dead.

28 days later

Re-Animator

Flight of the Living Dead

The Slaughter, this is a new direct to DVD film it's pretty campy but it has a scene where the characters are debating 'Are these Romero zombies or New zombies?' That's needed to be done for several years now. :D

As I mentioned above, The Last Man on Earth. These vampire/zombies are actually where Romero got his inspiration for for his Dead series zombies.

Useless Zombie fact of the day:
George Romero cites the original I Am Legend book by Richard Matheson to be a major influence on him and the making of Night of the Living Dead. Needless to say, had Matheson not written that wonderful book, we might not have had the brain eating goodness we onscreen today. :p

Best:

Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead (original, not remake)
Day of the Dead
Evil Dead (original)
Shaun of the Dead

Good/Fun:

Land of the Dead
28 Days Later
Army of Darkness (especially fun is to watch the commentary by Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi)

On a side note, I went to see Romero's Diary of the Dead two weeks ago- and it's not very good at all. Much as I love the man's movies, I can not recommend that one in the least.

[EDIT- Can't believe I forgot to include the Resident Evil movies. I'd put the first Resident Evil in the first category, or near enough- it was pretty good. The second I'd place in the second category, and the third I didn't care too much for at all.]
