D&D General BG3 Massive Spoiler Thread

From what I've seen so far, I'd have to do about 20 playthroughs to get all of the quests and different ways those quests progress. I don't have time for that lol.
Yeah me neither, but I'll try and 'evil' play through, and after that I'll start looking things up online to get the full picture of the game. :D

Im already doing a (periodically played) 2nd playthrough with an all-custom party (my laptop was a true trooper having four instances of the game open at once - so I could create four characters and have them join the same game - and not slowing down a bit!), where I purposely don't use many of the armor slots. Weapon, neck, and rings are fine, and I'm contemplating gloves, but no other slot can be used. I've purposely made a group that gets bonuses to AC (barbarian, draconic bloodline sorcerer, and two monks now multiclassed to druid and rogue), so I'm seeing how far I can get basically unarmored.

I'm about 95% of the way through (I'd guess) and so of course with my classic inability to finish any RPG not called Mass Effect I've started a new run-through on Tactician, and playing an Ancients Paladin so I have to start fights "the hard way" - i.e. by talking to people, not long-distance ambushes as I favoured on my previous run.

It is significantly harder as a result of these two things. I actually got killed in a fight and had to reload! I don't think that had happened even once previously - it'd been close a few times, but never happened. I've also been having to plan fights better, actually use consumables, pre-buff sometimes, and take more long rests (which cost double but that doesn't seem to be a major issue, food is still plentiful), and so on.

Current progress Act 3 progress: Still exploring the city and gathering allies. Got the illustrious Boo and his friend Minsc on board.

LOL. So, I'm running Baldur's Gate Decent into Avernus and I'm playing BG3. In BG3, I just got to the point where my mission is: Rescue Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard AND I just finished running my players through... rescuing Grand Duke Ulder Ravengard. Now, I'm not the kind of nerd that cares much for "continuity", but I do find it amusing that in BGDA he's in Elturel (when the city goes to Avernus) and in BG3, he's leading the Flaming Fist in part one. And he needs rescuing a LOT.

For everyone shouting about DiA being a tie-in product for BG3, I honestly think it doesn't connect into it that well. Both because the production cycle of the two products was misaligned horribly to get any sort of release synergy/coordination between the two teams, and I think the final products have very little in common. The plot points seem to step on each other's toes, like with the case with Duke Ravengard being damsel'd twice in the same way as you put it. There's also something else that's been bothering me, but I haven't advanced in the story to discover the real chant of the matter, so it's a bit speculative:

Act 2 of the game reveals that the Absolute is, in fact, an Elder Brain that's being controlled by high Netherese Magic in order to give a shadow following to the Dead Three. I don't know what is the endgame for the Dead 3 here.

I'm still mulling over a point Withers made to me in camp: Mind Flayers don't have souls, so the congregation of True Souls that the Dead 3 have created are actually empty husks for them in terms of bringing in divine followers. So what could they possibly hope to gain from using an Elder Brain and not gaining followers the usual way? I'm sure I'll find out soon enough, but for now it's an interesting question.

Anyway, back to DiA being a poor tie-in. In the book, the Dead 3 are on a murder spree in the city - but that murder spree is funded by Thalamra Vanthampur, who wants the city to fall into Zariel's clutches. AFAIK, the players disrupt this plan in DiA, and the Dead 3 seem to have an entirely different plan in BG3. So I wonder if the Dead 3's role in DiA is in any way connected to BG3, or if the two teams once again used similar plot points without really communicating with each other.

In any case, if you've gotten further in the game and know the answer to some of my questions, I'd rather discover them myself. But if the game indeed does not give a good explanation that links the two adventures, that seems like a missed opportunity!
