D&D 5E Big Battle, Exciting Victory, 36 seconds.

I attended a tournament once where a friend of mine was competing in the state wrestling championship. Not a single match lasted more than 10-15 seconds. Most were over in less. And they didn't even have weapons.

I have no problem with the speed of D&D combat.

36 seconds is an eternity in the middle of a fight.

The biggest thing that eats up time, as another poster mentioned, is circling each other and looking for an opening. But when you and your opponent actually start going for it, the battle is over in seconds.

I have a hard time seeing how some fights can last 3+ hours of game time.

But I guess that's a different subject.

Real fights are quick and brutal.
I do kinda like the 'narrative time' idea.
