Bionic Woman- Season 1 [Pilot] 9/2007

I stopped watching after the first five minutes- I just couldn't get past the horrible dialogue and hamhanded scripting. The exchange between BW and her boyfriend was awful-

(paraphrased)

Her: "I'm a bartender and a college dropout, I just don't see what future I have with you, a professor..."

Him: "... and a surgeon."

Yeesh. They spend 3 different scene changes showing us the main character getting out of her car, getting in the elevator at her building, and going into her house, but they have to have the characters tell us about themselves rather than, you know- make use of the visual format of television and show us.

Bionic Woman tries too hard to cram in as much character background/relationship info as it can in the first 10 minutes; almost every line was spoken to inform the viewers of a particular fact, and there was very little "real" interaction between the characters.

Exactly. It was such a hamfisted, unrealistic way of filling us in on the characters. Who talks like that? I don't know about you, but I don't generally go around telling my friends and acquaintances what my job and hobbies are like they don't know me, like I need to break the fourth wall for the viewers at home. :(

Ick! Didn't like it at all. Bad dialog, bad acting, bad overall plot decisions, but I stay tuned to the end to be rewarded by a bad fight. Ick!

Well, just watched the pilot, and I have to say, it was alright. Not as horrendous as everyone is saying (although I do agree with complaints about the rushed pacing and the ham handed dialog), but I think this show will do alright in the long run. I do think however that a longer pilot was needed to iron out the kinks in the plot and character department.

My only real complaint is the overall atmosphere of the whole thing, which looks to emulate Battlestar Galactica a bit too much. I know this is to be expected, since David Eick is the show's creator. But still, I wouldn't want everything on TV to look and feel like BSG.

I liked and enjoyed the old show in part because it was good versus bad and done in a fun (though not comedic) way. In addition to other complaints already listed, my main problem was just my personal taste. I am not looking for another dark show were the government is bad and infighting, I get that enough in the real world. I want something either fun to watch or something where the government is actually good for a change (I really liked Threshold for that reason). If others want a another dark BSG series then they can have it. I on the other hand will be watching Reaper this fall.

The worst part? The little girl in the car. "I thought it was cool a girl could do that." OMG talk about lame. Who didn't cringe at that line?

So many lines were cringeworthy that I hope you'll forgive me for not singling one out.

Not seeing BSG, even with Starbuck trying to extend her career a little. Alias though? BW has "we need to fill the hole left from Alias" written all over it.
