Bioware - anyone really notice something?

It can be done differently - for example, God of War does this quite well. The character knows what has happened in the past, but you as a player only learn bits and pieces as it is revealed. Fairly effective.
Well God of War is really no Roleplaying game… Basically if that happened to you at the tabletop, you not having all the knowledge your character has would it not bother you?

I know it would bother me greatly…

I understand what you're saying and you have a point. But, 15 minutes into Jade Empire I realized I've already played this game a dozen times already and ran it back to the video rental store.

I have noticed with the end fight in most Bioware games with the BBEG has the same formula: the BBEG is invulinable/ immune to your attacks until you find the thing or use the thing that weakens him and then you can take out the BBEG normally.

You could remove Bioware from that statement and the statement would still be accurate.

Too true, too true.

And for what it's worth I love the Bioware games. Just because the set up for each game is similar doesn't mean they are telling the same story over and over.

I think Video games in general have a hard time making a good story. Since video games are some what limited in what they can do. Something simple for us to do in real life is very hard to do in a game.

Bioware stories are fairly good and must admit KOTOR 1 had one of the best story lines in a game ever. The reason I think they do the HERO has no clue bit is so you can customize you character. With not know who you are or where you are does a lot for character creation. More so then "Well I'm Chaotic good, so this is the path I should take." In NWN you know exactly who you are and what your suposed to be doing from the start..

Now FPS have very little story (Lol Doom ) even the ones that are considered good have a relative;y shallow story. Halflife (original I don't own the second one) had a decent story but did a good job of putting you in it.

You must try Halo and Halo 2 to see what can be done with a story in a FPS... 8 thumbs up (out of 2) for the story alone!

I own both of them..

The first halo has a way better story then the second.. When I first played halo 1 and was playing Co-Op (the fun way to play) we were doing the level where the flood are released. As we made our way through the prison and find more and more carnage, but unsure what was the cause we actually had panic fire at just about anything. After you find the recorder in the Marine's helmet and played the footage back, that moment I think is the best part of the game. Once we heard the clanking sound (doors being beaten open after looking at the recording) panic ensued and was the first time I was truely afraid of what was about to happen..

F.E.A.R looks too have a good story and watching gamespys 15mins hands on footage is a real treat.. The guy playing happy goes about his way shooting stuff acting tough like in any shooter.. When the wierd stuff starts happening you noticed him checking cornors more and spinning around a lot. He also panic fires at stuf that isn't "Technically" there a few times.. Good stuff and the Demo comes out Friday =)

Absolutely agreed about the first HALO. My friend and I playing co-op had a very similar experience with panic fire before the Flood. So much so that when the actual Flood arrived, we were almost out of ammo... I went heroically berzerk hand-to-hand against some guys just in order to get their weapons!
