Bit of advice?

The formal name for a hangover is veisalgia, from the Norwegian word for "uneasiness following debauchery" (kveis) and the Greek word for "pain" (algia) -- an appropriate title considering the uncomfortable symptoms experienced by the average drinker.

LOL I gotta remember this next time I call in sick. "Sorry boss, doc says I am suffering from veisalgia. Nothing too serious, should be in tomorrow."

n studies that blocked the enzyme that breaks down acetaldehyde (acetaldehyde dehydrogenase) with a drug called Antabuse, designed to fight alcoholism, acetaldehyde toxicity resulted in headaches and vomiting so bad that even alcoholics were wary of their next drink.

Wow! That'll make you stop drinking.

btw, that acetelehyde stuff is more toxic than the liquor itself, the body usually deals with it in the kidneys pretty easily ... but not large amounts.

Eating eggs the morning after provides energy like any other food, which is the primary benefit. But eggs do also contain large amounts of cysteine, the substance that breaks down the hangover-causing toxin acetaldehyde in the liver's easily depleted glutathione. Therefore, eggs can potentially help mop up the left-over toxins.

No wonder I craved eggs this morning. I drove to a place and had an awesome omelet.

I love knowing how stuff works. It makes me feel better to know what's going on.

I'm still quasi-stoned due to the detoxification. Though less.

It's kinda funny this thread came up today. I have a bit of a hangover from DJing last night, which I rarely do anymore. As a matter of fact, I drink much, much less than I used to. It helps having a real job and not just working at the bar ;)

Although when I did DJ full time it sure was a blast. Nothing like getting paid to sit on my arse while drinking beer, playing whatever music I want as loud as I want, and seeing the occasional topless woman.

Bad idea. Gatorade in actuality is a piss-poor rehydrater. All Sport is a good one. Really, you need water and B vitamins.

Quite. B vitamin suppliments have bailed me out a couple of times. They also helped my best man deal with my wedding. :)

Or you could just eat Pure Grade B Maple Syrup and fresh-squeezed lemon juice. Maybe with some Cayeanne pepper. and a large amount of water.

Its got all the vitamins you need. And most of the energy you need. Cleanses the body and makes you feel good. Made me high.

*shrug* It's been a no fail solution for myself and quite a few others during several years of getting hammered 4-5 nights out of the week.

It's the sugar that helps (which is why Coke is also a common home remedy).

Its 11 AM ... I've had a wonderful breakfast, a good deal of water, and I'm still a little hungover.

Drinking doesn't appear worthwhile to me anymore, I'm pretty sure I am going to stop.

Anyone know any other remedies for a hangover, other than time?

Also, related to all this, I think I've found the easy way to lose weight. Anybody interested?

plenty of water before you go to bed. and more when you get up.

Hint - don't take dietary advice from a guy who's repeatedly claiming to be high and euphoric. If you shouldn't be operating heavy machinery, you shouldn't be doling out medical information either :)

The easy way to lose weight is simple balanced diet and exercise. Nothing difficult about it. And anything else is likely doing your body a disservice.

That's right as far as it goes. But we're all conditioned to like coke, fast food, etc etc.

So how do we switch from that to a balanced diet that consists mostly of grains and fruits and the like?

I did it by altering my perceptions of foods. Chemically, starting with lemon juice. This has caused a chain reaction that has really changed my lifestyle and what I enjoy eating.

I'm only high off natural foods. I don't need drugs, I've got lemon juice.
