[Blackdirge Publishing] Master at Arms upcoming products (Update 07/06/07).

BLACKDIRGE

Adventurer
Hi all,

The first nine products in the Master at Arms series have been released and can be found here:

Arbalestier
Shatterskull Adept
Peltast
Hoplite
Halberdier
Pikeman
Crimson Cleaver
Cudgel Thug
Spear Sentinel

I also wanted to fill everyone in on the installments that are currently in production and will be hitting the digital shelves soon. They are:

Knight of Staves (quarterstaff)
Crimson Pugilist (spiked gauntlet)
Nimble Knife (dagger)
Curse Slinger (sling)

I'd also love to hear any ideas or suggestions on weapons you would like to see covered in this series. So fire away with any questions or comments.

Thanks

Can I use these new prestige classes for high level games? From the "historical accuracy" blurb, I get the feeling they are more a challenge for lets say, max 10th level PCs.

I currently have 6 characters of approx. 16th - 18th level. Last session, they defeated a pair of nightwalkers fairly easily. It'd be fun to challenge them with the worlds best morningstar fighter (or better: a fighter with a maul) - but will that work with the prestige classes? Thanks.

You can absolutely use Master at Arms prestige classes for high-level characters. In fact, one of the cool things about a 5 level prestige class is that high-level character can have two or even three of them. The historically accurate part of the product has to do with some of the fluff text, and the fact that class abilities are inspired by or extrapolated from historical sources. As with most prestige class abilities, Master at Arms class abilities are simply enhanced by high-level characters and the equipment that have access to. In fact, the iconic NPCs for most of the products are 10th level and above.

As for a morningstar fighter, the shatterskull adept should be right up your alley. :D

Schedule

Thanks for pointing me to this thread!

I love the Master At Arms series! And I am really looking forward to the upcoming installments. Is there any word on the (tentative) release schedule? I only ask because the PDF webstore I use requires a minimum dollar amount and so I try to time my purchases.

Thanks again!

No problem.

As for a release schedule, look for the Halberdier the week after next, and the Pikeman a week after that. The goal is to release between 2-4 a month, depending on when I get art, editing, and all of that jazz. =]

Release Update

Hi all, here's a quick update on what's coming up for Master at Arms.

The next release is the knight of staves, which will be released Monday, July 9th. As its name suggests, the knight of staves is a master of the quarterstaff.

After the knight of staves comes the crimson pugilist, a down and dirty pit-fighter specializing in the use of the spiked gauntlet.

Also, look for a Master at Arms deluxe compilation in the next month or so. This compilation will feature 10 of the Master at Arms classes, new weapons, more than 30 new Master at Arms NPCs, and a bunch of other martial goodies. The compilation will be offered in both PDF and print formats.

You can also get the first 8 Master at Arms products at a reduced price in the Master at Arms: Mega Bundle. The bundle is a good way to get into the series on the cheap.

As always, I'd love to hear any feedback on the line, especially about what weapons you would like to see done.

Thanks

How about the whip, scythe/sickle, lance (paladins and knights)?

I've considered the whip, but it was done pretty well with the lasher. I'm definitely doing the scythe and sickle. In fact I found some pretty cool historical stuff for both weapons.

The lance has possibilities, although i wouldn't want it to look too much like the cavelier. If I did it, I might go with the Native American angle rather than the classical knight in shining armor bit, which has been done a few times.
