Blade as CoC?

I am not a fan of the comic, and haven't seen Blade 2, but Blade 1 reaked of CoC. Secret vampire societies of which few know anything about. Has anyone tried this for CoC? I could even see a matrix style game being run with spycraft and CoC....

Blade really isn't Lovecraftian at all. It's more of a cross between Vampire: The Masquerade and the Matrix.

From what I've heard (I don't own it myself), it could probably work as a Spycraft campaign.

Yes, CoC has guns and secret societies, but that's about as close to Blade as it gets. It's really nothing like Blade, IMNSHO.

Well, having Vampires that are sercretly trying to stop the Cults that worship the big bads in the center if the universe could be interesting. Old Vampires that are complete nuts, but effectively immortal. The players stumble across the vampoires and fight them. Stumble across the cults and fight them. What happens when they realize the Vamps and Cults fight each other?

To be more accurate, it may make a good Shadowforce game. (Sort of like saying it would make a better Forgotten Realms game than a DND game.) Shadow has mystics and psionics, so vampires may hang around too.

The reason I make a deal about the difference is that there is vocal componet to the Spycraft crowd that absoultely hates any esoteric bits. In fact, some fans even wanted SC to drop the 007 bit and go total Tom Clancy.

I'm a big fan of the Blade movies (I could watch that opening bloodbath scene in the first movie every day and twice on Sundays), but I don't think that there's any real connection in terms of 'feel' between Blade and CoC. None at all. Now the super vampires in the second movie could be used as CoC monsters--there was something Lovecraftian in the look and feel of them, but nothing in terms of tone. Now, I know I've used such wiggly words as 'feel' and 'tone' but I guess it goes to Louis Armstrong's definition of Jazz--'If you have to ask, you'll never know'.

Spycraft rules with MM monsters is, IMHO, a superb combination for modern action horror games. Blade, Resident Evil, even Buffy would work great

Better yet for Blade, actually play Vampire: the Masquerade. The sourcebook Time of the Thin Blood actually has rules for playing a half-human, half-vampire. Blade has vampire clans, V:tM has clans. Blade is a raging engine of death, and the Vampire rpg has plenty raging engines of death. I think it's perfect.

Anyone who wants to knock the Storyteller system can send me an email, instead of turning this nice, fuzzy thread into a battleground. Don't bother even with the email if you haven't played the game.

As for Spycraft, I have the game and it has absolutely no supernatural elements whatsoever. Yes, high-level characters can do some wicked only-in-the-movies stuff, but nothing not technically possible.

Spycraft has huge cross-over potential...I mean, who hasn't wanted to blast a vampire with a shotgun.

The trouble with movie adaptations is that most of the main characters are already ungodly and sort of skew the whole level curve. I mean, Chow-Yun Fat in "Hard Boiled" was at least level 12+ and I don't even want to think about how many melee combat feats Blade has...wait, that might be fun!

I see vampire conversion from 3e to Spycraft as fairly easy. The only problem is where to get all that darn silver nitrate to put in your ammo.

It's also important to note that, while Call of Cthulhu is primarily a vehicle for playing Lovecraftian games, the d20 rules are adaptable enough to play any kind of horror game.

That being said, Blade isn't so much about horror as it is a darkly themed adventure. I agree that Spycraft would work wonders with a Blade-esque feel.

If you are a fan of Blade, you might be interested in checking out the new Ravenloft 3e monster collection, Denizens of Darkness.

There's a damphir template that would be appropriate for Blade-style characters.
