Blasphemy!! - Champions of Norrath (or I Finally Snapped...)

Sat down with my table top group and played through heroes 4 player with one of each class.

Uttery excellent way to spend a weekend.

Fighter was by far the most powerful. Favorite part of the game? The boss cut scenes. All of them rocked. I particularly like watching the beholder's entrance. :)

See, I've never really enjoyed those kinds of games. I liked Diablo 2 a bit but it didn't hold my interest. I could see why people could like it (as well as Baulder's gate and its kin) but it just wasn't for me. Heck, even Neverwinter Nights didn't hold me for long and I was really looking forward to it.

As WizardDru stated, Neverwinter Nights has a weak and uninteresting single player campaign. However, the expansion packs are much higher quality and feature a better storyline. There are also several Neverwinter Nights modules available for download from the internet that are absolutely incredible, and easily surpass the original campaign in terms of quality.

Here is a post I made in another thread featuring the best NWN modules out there:

Here is a list of Neverwinter Nights modules that, IMO, are the cream of the crop. I've provided links to where you can download the modules, but please be aware that many of these modules have additional files that must be downloaded (such as hack packs or movies). Information on these additional files can be found in the links.

I second this. I highly, HIGHLY recommend the Shadowlands series, and it's sequel, the Dreamcatcher series. They set the benchmark for what NWN modules can do. You do some things in those modules that I never imagined that the NWN engine could be made to do. They were the first ones that I know of to introduce in-game cinematics to the engine, for example.

Miller is currently working on a new series called Demon that will take place in Sigil, and use the new Sigil tileset from the CIty of Doors initiative. He's also created a M:tG-like card game within NWN, which you can get from his website.

Well I got the game on Thursday and its pretty cool. No real surprises gameplay wise as its very much like Diablo and Dark Alliance. And as can be expected its story lite, even more I think than Dark Alliance. The artwork is very nice and detailed, the environments very atmospheric. Its also nice to see some familiar places and faces from the EQ universe.

My only minor complaint is the camera which like Dark Alliance doesnt zoom in close enough for my taste (altho there are 3 zoom levels) and often remains more overhead that isometric, causing me to crane my neck alot. The spell interface is a bit different IIRC from DA.

Also it seems the difficulty is harder at the beginning than Dark Alliance. And the boss battles can be a bit challenging until you figure out whats going on. I died alot against the first one till I finally got it.

Looking foward to co-op. This could be a major time waster for a bit.

Heya:

I got Fallout:Brotherhood of Steel for the XBox which uses the same engine. The perspective is _extremely_ overhead, annoyingly so, especially for a game in which firearms play such a big part. There are skills to increase weapon range 3 meters per rank. With 5 ranks, it's pretty obvious that later on in the game I won't even be able to see most of the baddies I put down. Weird.

However, I went back to BGDA2 to finish it on Extreme. Ysuran, the Moon Elf Necromancer is way broken. He needs to be nerfed. ;) I'm planning on getting Champions of Norrath as well, I think I dig the up close and personal nature of fantasy games of this ilk, rather than the kind of impersonal Fallout. Although I've liked all the Fallout games on the PC (including Tactics!).

Take care,
Dreeble

Question for Jetzer, how many of those require a DM? Will they require me to uninstall SoU and HotU?
