Blaster Sorcies?

Hello, all! First time poster here, so please have mercy :P

I've been reading some of the forum posts recently regarding the upcoming 3.5, and i understand that there's some hubbub regarding the haste spell changes. Let me see if I have this straight: apparently you were able to cast an extra spell per round if hasted, and in 3.5 this is no longer permitted. since sorcies cannot have the quicken feat, they will be unable to cast two spells per round.

Arcane spellcasters have never been terribly popular in any of my groups, so until recently, i was unaware that you could even use haste in such a manner. is this going to drastically change sorcerers and wizards in any significant way? How will this affect your group or your "blaster sorc"? Has there been much discussion on this?

I'd appreciate any comments you guys could provide, because i'm curious about the arcane spellcasters now, especially with all the commotion they're generating on the message boards.

Thanks.

It is nice.

One problem with the current haste spells is one the party sorcerer gets it he expends his spells at twice his normal pace. So you end up with a spellcaster out of spells very quickly.

Sure it is technically his fault for spending his spells too fast but you still have to alter your campaign a bit. If you do not you end up with a spellcaster that wants to rest way too often.

That's something that lies entirely on the head of the player. It is a choice the player makes, and he or she isn't forced to make it. I've played arcane casters pretty much since 3e came out, and I tell you I've always been very conscious of how and when my spells were used, only using haste in such a manner on a few occasions. Honestly, I find the new version that's been posted here on these boards to be more powerful, and will probably be using the spell more often if any of my game switch over.

Still becomes a DM issue.

Once a sorcerer is out of spells he wants to rest. If the particular campaign has no time limit then the party is likely to agree. This can reduce your campaign to one battle a day and the other players will feel like 5th wheels.

Personally, I'd just let sorcs (and bards) use Quicken Spell. I might even drop the required slot to +3 spell levels, instead of +4.

Personaly, my problem will be if the 'solution' is to put Arcane peperation from FRCS in the revised PH, since I really lothe the flavor of the feat. I'd rather see spontanious quickening simply cost +5(or better still drop preparied Quicken Spell to +3), require the sorc to spend a spell slot for it beforehand (i.e. learn 'Quickened Dimention Door' as a 8th level spell), or some feat based method that fits better with the spontanious nature of the sorcerer if they also get a few bonus feats (even if only 1/2 as many as a wizards with no item creation).

Of course, I'm also happy with 3.0E haste when you increase the casting time to one full round...

quicken barely deseves a+3 slot and sucks at +4. I'd place it at +2, and just accept the fact that the desingers were lame for not changing sorcerers.
