does anyone know how blasts work? As in the dragons breath weapon?
A blast is a square area that has an outer corner touching a corner of your square. It sort of replaces cones (which currently only seem to present in DDM).

Blasts are now a square around the target. Gone are the strange circles which required metal templates to figure out.

In fact, all of the GMs were joking at DDXP that Fireball should now be changed to "Firecube" as it now is a cube area of effect rather than a ball.

Also the Black Dragon that was being played at DDXP had a breath weapon that was a 5 squares in each direction around the Dragon (and since the Dragon was 2x2 the breath weapon was an insanely massive 12x12 area of effect!)

It's the 1-1-1 Cone! Oh, the NerdRage!

So black dragons are now breathing and farting acid at the same time?

That really doesn't seem right. Maybe the Burst/blast etc. definition weren't clear to all the GMs it seems like a conflict.

Based on the description of the 2nd post, that 12x12 sounds wrong; the area of effect should be only by 5x5 - with one of the sides of the square adjacent to the dragon. It really is the 1-1-1 equivalent of a cone (or really a chord, which is what the cone was really meant to simulate). The dragon could potentially effect an area of 12x12 (well, minus his 2x2 square), but any single breath attack would only get one 5x5 area.

If it's just a square around the creature than I don't know why it's called a blast instead of a burst. Because isn't that what a close Burst is?

I thought Bursts were the aura like effect centering on you. If not, what's the difference between Blasts and Bursts?
The dragons breath attack is a Blast and it's frightful presence is a Burst effect.
