Would a theif under the influence of a Blink spell allow sneak attack at all times. Also would a ghost touch weapon negate the 20% miss chance from the Blink Spell?

No. Ghost touch weapons allow yout to strike material creatures when you are incorporeal, but when you are blinking you are Ethereal, not Incorporeal.

Technically, ghost touch weapons can't hit you when you are ethereal, but the spell indicates that they can.

The spell doesn't necessarily indicate that the can hit you while you're Ethereal, but they do lower the miss chance to hit you while you're Blinking.

1. Someone who can strike Ethereal creatures and See Invisible has no miss chance.

2 Someone who can strike Incorporeal creatures has a 20% miss chance whether or not they can See Invisible.

3. Someone who can See Invisible but can't strike either Incorporeal or Ethereal creatures has a 20% miss chance.

4. Someone who can't See Invisible or strike either Incorporeal or Ethereal creatures has a 50% miss chance.

And since you are not Incorporeal while you are Blinking, why would being able to hit Incorporeal creatures lower your miss chance?

I think the writer of the spell got Incorporeal and Ethereal confused, and it's simply never been corrected.

Because the spell text says so?

If we have to concoct a flavour text reason to explain a completely unambiguous piece of rules text, I'd suggest that perhaps the Blink spell phases someone through an Incorporeal state to get to the Ethereal plane.

But it's not necessary to handwave an explanation - the rule is clear.

I think the writer of the spell got Incorporeal and Ethereal confused, and it's simply never been corrected.

And until and unless it ever is, there's no ambiguity about it.

B]And I never said there was, now did I? [/B]

The point is that the spell doesn't indicate that Ghost Touch weapons can hit Ethereal creatures; it indicates that they have a better chance of hitting Blinking creatures.

The text of Blink can't be used to suggest that a Ghost Touch weapon can hit an Ethereal Filcher.

Unless the Ethereal Filcher is Blinking, I guess :)

Yes - his opponent is denied Dex bonus, and the 20% miss chance is not due to Concealment.

The Ghost Touch weapon makes no difference in this case. He gets his sneak attack, but there's a 20% chance he'll miss.

And what happens to you when you "blink out" during the round?

Why, I do believe you go Ethereal.

That's what part of the miss chance represents: the chance of you going ethereal just before the blow lands.

Thus, the spell seems indicate that a ghost touch weapon can hit you, even though you have gone ethereal, even though that is not an ability of ghost touch weapons.

The text of Blink can't be used to suggest that a Ghost Touch weapon can hit an Ethereal Filcher.

I never said it did. It's a mistake in the text of the Blink spell, not in the ghost touch ability, or the Incoporeal ability, or the Ethereal ability.

It works because the spell says it works, not because it makes sense.

The real problem is that it gives the impression that you could use a ghost touch weapon to attack people without a miss chance while you are blinking, which isn't actually true.
