Blood and Fists Question

one-end

First Post
Hey everyone,

I am a huge fan of Blood and Fists but have recently ran into a snag over a rule interpretation with one of my players. Not a major snag but I was hoping that I could get confirmation on this board.

When taking a Style in Blood and Fists it will say what sort of style it is (External, Internal) and what its attacks are modified by (Strength, Dex, Wisdom, etc). I have always taken that to mean all attacks are now modified by that Attribute. However, my player believes it to be ONLY the style manuevers related to that Style.

Is it the former or the latter?

Thanks for the help

Its only the style maneuvers.

Say an Aikido master decides to switch to Boxing (a bizarre combo sure). He would go from modifying his attacks from Wisdom to modifying them by Strength.

There's not many cases where this would make sense mechanically. It actually came up in one of my Blood and Vigilance campaigns first, where a character got drained, and switched styles to get around his (now lower) ability score.

Good question and glad you like the book.

Wow. So I was wrong and it is only the Style manuevers? Hmm.

So a character with Arnis, when attacking, would still have his attacks modified by Strength? Not dexterity?

Or am I completely not understanding you here?

You mean would a character with Arnis use his Dexterity modifier when attacking with his fists? No, he would use his Strength. He is no better trained with his fists from Arnis than a character with no training.

What are ya trying to say about me, Chuck? ;)

So, just how many styles are featured between both books? It already sounds like a good range, but just how broad is that range?

OK. Starting to understand. But he would use his dex when using batons right?

I guess this is the only thing in the books I would change. Well, not change..more modify. As this was not apparrent to me in the books as the way the styles read would lead me to believe otherwise. :(

That's cool, my ego can handle being house ruled ;)

Peterson there are 41 styles in BNF I and another 41 in BNF II (which was a complete accident btw).

I take it you were going for 42 and 42? ;)

Either way - let me say WOW! As I said before, this has moved up to the top of my Wish list - both products!

Nope. Would not house rule it. Just saying that is the one part of the book that I would have had you clarify I guess. No big. Just an observation.

I am a huge fan nonetheless.
