Blown Fuse > d20 Overload

Oh yes. I have many books I will never use, and I have three campaign settings almost ready:

1) Medieval Fantasy: Warhammer world + Grim Tales, plus the addition of many other things from various books to create a European-like Medieval-Renaissance world of low magic.

2) 20th Century Horror: d20 Call of Cthulhu + Grim Tales + Dreamland, for a sort of Pulp Cthulhu campaign I intend to GM this year 2005.

3) Science Fiction: d20 Modern + d20 Future + OGL Cybernet + GURPS Transhuman Space and Alpha Centauri for setting only. I think I have everything needed for futuristic-punk adventures.

Alas. I know I will keep buying stuff at one time or the other, despite I see I am buying less and less.

If all d20 publishers stopped publishing today, I'd have enough to keep me going for a long time.

That doesn't mean I don't see new things now and then that would still be cool in my game...

But I am really, really sick of yet another bunch of feats, prestige classes, core classes, spells or races.
Who remembers the time when we craved for such things? When was it? In a past life? Anyway, I also feel the "overdose".

Last D20 book I got was Grim Tales. Since then (about two months ago) I haven't bought anything. My only planned D20 purchase in the forseeable future is Aracana Evolved, but even that is getting "iffy".

Combination of lack of shelf space and lack of interest in any upcoming products, as well as the feeling that I could run for a couple decades just on this material. ;)

I'm overloaded with d20 stuff WotC. The last book that I got some use out of was Unearther Arcana, and that was minimal at best. The Complete books are atrocious IMO. I don't need more PrC's thank you very much.

I've purchased Grim Tales, Midnight, and the Conan books and they are all amazing. I don't have much faith in what WotC is doing.

XO, my recommendation to you is to try a completely new style of campaign. Grab Grim Tales. It will really change your perspective. I was going through burnout but I figured out it was d20 burnout, it was WotC burnout.

I don't really understand how more PrCs = book is atrocious...

But I'm with Buttercup on this one. Keep giving me more! I've got lots of fuses that can be overblown, and the more there is to last me the rest of my life, the better. :)

I'm not buying all that much, but I'm not buying nothing. Just picked up my own copy of Eberron this week, for instance. I'll pick up the Iron Kingdoms world guide right away when it's out. I could always use another monster book, and I still don't have MM3 or Creatures of Freeport yet.

But yeah, I think I see your point. Back in the fall of 2000, I was buying almost everything that was out. Now, I'm focusing on stuff that I really want.

Much as I like lots of the material coming out from WotC and 3rd party publishes, when I see some of the stuff it starts to make me think that 'The Complete Book of Elves, Fighters, Wizards, Wineskins, Toothbrushes, etc.' is what started the gradual decline of TSR's quality.

I'm trying to buy only what I will actually read and maybe even use in my game. I have a stack of half-read books (including Complete Arcane, Beyond Countless Doorways, Sharn City of Towers, Libris Mortis, Monster Manual III and Blowing Up Hong Kong for Feng Shui). I decided not to buy anything else until I caught up on reading these ones. Then I saw Complete Adventurer and ..... "IT MUST BE MINE! HUZZAH!"

Oh dear.

How about I don't need more PrC's AND the books are atrocious?

So true. It seems like WotC is running out of new ideas. They create some new "line" of books just so they have something to churn out. Complete series? 4 books right there. Environmental series? At least 3-4, maybe more. The monster books? 3 so far and most likely more. They are operating like that because they know people will them, regardless of content or quality of said content.

They just aren't very imaginative anymore whereas 3rd party publishers have really stepped it up a notch and are producing some very nice products.
