Bluff/Sense motive and Spot/Listen

I get you. The important thing, I think, is to address this situation during character generation if you are going to have player verse player relations like this. Basiclaly just talk about how its going to be handled in the campaign.
I agree with you there. I typically do allow interactions to occur between PCs, and normally I'll sit in the background and watch to see how it works out without rolls, though I'll often suggest a roll when there's something in contention, and my players are usually amenable to using the result to determine the contention point.

One time, in fact, there was a player who was so atrociously bad at bluffing (though his character was good), that the other players actually asked me to roll them a Sense Motive versus his Bluff so that they could give the poor guy a fair chance, since their reaction to what the player said in real life would have been to laugh at him.

I just don't play with people that rob and keep things from each that are important. We keep backgrounds and things like a that a mystery to be explored in the game, but none of us likes the idea of robbing from other PCs.

Ahh, that'd do the trick then :D

Usually, there's at least someone in the group who tries something funny at least once a campaign with treasure. Sometimes, its really a surprise (like when the Chaotic Good character stole magic items from the party's stockpile to finance a trip to liberate souls from Hell with which the other characters wouldn't help), and sometimes not so surprising (like when after the fight with the Balor, the other PCs realised that the Chaotic Neutral Rogue/Necromancer PC who insisting on bringing a cart to haul treasure, even to the Abyss, hadn't been fighting with them, and when they look around, the PC is nowhere to be seen, and neither is the treasure).

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll discuss all of the stuff on the board with the DM tonight and see what he feels about it.

Oh one last question...How far can your character see if his vision/line of sight is not blocked?

If anybody could point me to a page in the DMG where this information is listed it would be real helpful. I've been looking though my book for about 45minutes and I am starting to get a headache. :(

It is allowed in our games, because it is funnier that way.
My group definitely prefers being able to roll for this kind of stuff. In my old group, they provided heavy amusement for everyone (the rogue convincing the paladin that he'd always had that particular very expensive necklace, and it had nothing to do with the fact that they just visited the house of a noble lady) and made it possible to fairly have one player run a villian in the party (he had two characters at that point, and the whole little plot thingy was awesome).

In my new group, it has an added benefit... some of my new players are very quarrelsome OOC, and by introducing an IC resolution mechanic, we can settle arguments with dice, and then we can move on and get to the game.

I understand why the RAW says that these skills don't work on other players, but I've always been a big fan of house ruling otherwise. In mature groups, we find it more enjoyable. In less mature groups, it solves bickering problems. YMMV.
