[Bo9S] Ruby knight vindicator: clank, clank

One alternative might be the PHB2 retraining rules, perhaps? That would allow you to change one strike per level, if you change nothing else.
I've not read the retraining rules, but I assume that you can't retrain to use your 1st level feat for weapon specialization at 4th level. Same would apply here (as Nifft said). If the retraining rules _do_ allow that, we are talking about a big powerup...

I can't speak for Bo9S, but the retraining rules in PHBII clearly say that it is up to the player to prove that his current build _could_ have been able to qualify for a certain change at a given level.

For example ...

A fighter could never retrain any of his feats that were taken below level 4 for Weapon Specializatin. Ever. However, a 10th level bard with 13 ranks in Perform (anything) could feasibly retrain a 3rd level feat with the prerequisite of Perform (any skill) 5 ranks. Since most of us don't keep track of which skill points we spent at which level, they can only make the rules so strict. But hard and fast rules - like Fighter feats, etc - can never be violated by retraining according to my reading of the PHBII

Jasin has previously suggested that a PrC can swap maneuvers, but you can only gain new maneuvers from those schools that it grants. So the RKV, for instance, could swap out 1 maneuver every other level but new ones would have to come from Devoted Spirit, Shadow Hand, Stone Dragon or White Raven.

Which in this case is actually better than the base crusader, but that's another issue.

Which is why I don't think any of the PrC can swap out manoeuvers as this elegant class feature is a significant balancing point in favour of the base classes.

So, um, about the ruby knight vindicator. Would it be fair to add 4 ranks in Move Silently to the prereq list, and MS to the list of class skills (and they get to ignore ACP)?

It doesn't seem like an unreasonable ability or requirement to me, given the flavour of the class.

I'd say the class is already on the high side of playable, that (little bit) may be just a bit too much. Perhaps add it to the class and then say they can ignore ACP for hide and MS in any shadow hand stance. That restriction seems reasonable (and shadow hand stances are not the native stance of a RKV.)
