[Board Games] Any board games with an Egeyptian feel to it?

Off the top of my head I'm thinking of 4 games that are Egyptian "cosmetically". That is they try to emulate ancient periods. But I really don't know how to know which will give you the feel of ancient Egypt.

The first is Cleopatra and this is probably the "coolest", because it has pieces you use to build a monument.

The next is Ra, a tile collection game, or was it Epoch? This is the problem I have; I don't own it, just played it.

Which means I also can't tell you the name of the game where you build in different sections of the board, along the Nile river.

That reminds me of probably another game in the desert as well where you want to have as many connecting tiles with tokens on them as possible.

But then there is Yshphan, or something like that. It has camels and may not actually be Egyptian, could be Babylonian, but again, I don't own any of these games so I am not a good resource.

I just know that there are many choices.

Hi Reveile,

As Wycen mentions, there are quite a few. To add, Amun Re by Reiner Knizai is an auction based game that revolves around developing provinces to gain gold to build pyramids. Award winning game, other than Cleopatra I'd say probably the most thematic on an overall basis.

Tigris & Euphrates (which is what Wycen might be discussing about the Babylonian game) is quite fun. More of a development theme and mechanics, again designed by Reiner Knizai.

Caesar & Cleopatra is a 2-player card game that revolves around the struggle to be the next Pharoah between the two rulers. It's a game of intrigue and influence that plays pretty fast (30-40 minutes).

If you could be more specific of the type of game itself, I'd be happy to see if we can figure out a game that you would like to give a go at. For a group game, I'd go with Cleopatra & the Society or Amun Re really.

I definitely recommend Cleopatra and the Society of Architects. It's an excellent game, and it'll probably end up with the most Egyptian feel just because it's so visually interesting.

I'm not really sure exactly what you mean by capturing the feel of Ancient Egypt, but there are lots of games which are Egyptian themed.

Scitadel: Wycen got the name right, it is Yspahan. Haven't played it, but it's supposed to be a really cool game.

Speaking of games Wycen mentioned, it is called Ra, and it's my second favorite game after Tigris & Euphrates. Highly recommend it.

Others you might look into:

Scarab Lords, a 2-player card game where you try to take control of upper, middle and lower egypt.

Aton, a 2-player game that's kind of hard to categorize... BGG has it listed as abstract strategy, which sort of fits. You play rival priests trying to gain influence in the four greatest temples of Egypt. I like this one a lot, but have only gotten to play it a couple times.

Ok, I looked at the pics on boardgamegeek and Amun Re is the game I was talking about where you build along the Nile river.

It's not Egyptian, but you might want to try Amyitis, where you try to build the hanging gardens of Babylon.

That's funny, Wycen, I just picked up a game called Horus (2008, by Mayfair games, there's a different game called Horus released in 2007) yesterday, and it's another one where you build along the Nile. Haven't gotten a chance to play it yet, but it's a tile game in the vein of Carcassonne. Got a pretty bad rating on BGG right now, though only 40 ratings so far. Reading the rules it doesn't seem that bad, but only an actual play will tell...
