BOEF vs. BORF

Would the Title of the BOEF have impacted my decision.

I wouldn't buy the book regardless of the content. The fact is that the material doesn't appeal to me. I guess I'm just not the target audience. To me, bondage and S&M is just sick, not the least bit erotic.

My guess is that a lot of us have already done pretty much everything sexual we've wanted to do in our lives. I'm an adult and there's nothing I've wanted to do that I haven't.

Just because I don't like, nor want, the book, doesn't mean I haven't lived an "alternative" (for a grandma ok word) lifestyle. Done it, got the t-shirt, and still think an RPG book about it is silly.

Well, maybe that could explain why these threads keep cropping up. If you haven't been there or done that, the book seems more important.

Seriously, AQ, if you find the book interesting, and it enhances your gaming experience, have fun. I think the general concensis is no one cares.

Given that, according to Valar Project's website,

The “Book of Erotic Fantasy” is an OGL RPG product with rules covering many of the intimate aspects of the fantasy world.

... I think a trip to the OGL forum is in order.

I always thought that most gamers were perverted at heart...

Then I realized this was a d20 board, and I'd been playing Vampire and
LARPing for like 5 years to the exclusion of everything (except for mighty
Cthulhu...Ia! Ia!).

I worked at an upscale Adult Store, I spent time at clubs of various
"fetishes" if you call them that. What *I* think it boils down to is...
preferrence.

AQ is obviously INTERESTED and HYPED for the book, and he want to
push it to make it a success. Doesn't every fan of other games want
this? (And I don't know about "creepy comments", again that's opinion)

Even though I probably would not buy the book, the only opinion of mine
that's lowered after reading this thread, is for the maturity of this board
in general.

Except for Teflon Billy, he always make me laugh, you're a trip. :)

That's a shame :(

You know this board is one of the most mature boards I visit. I realize that the moderation here is what some might call heavy, but it's keeps the discussion civil and on-topic.

AQ asked for opinions, and when people gave them, he got mad, he ranted on this board, cried about it in his livejournal and bad-mouthed the ENworld community on another board. In the end he wasn't very mature about the whole situation.

I don't know if AQ is associated with Valar in any capacity beyond being a fan, but his attitude certainly isn't helping build sales.

Promoting a product is one thing.

Throwing a fit and badmouthing the community when their opinions don't agree with yours is another thing altogether.

Frankly, most of the immaturity I've seen regarding the BoEF is coming not from the people who think it's a stupid idea, but the people who are most in favor of it.

Well, that was going to be my post pretty much in a nutshell.

But I was exempt from the criticism anyway!

Heh... funny... I've been a member of a satanic cult, yet I still enjoy RPG books on evil fantasy religions... does that count?

:)

So, coming in late to all of this (the BOEF not really being anything I feel like I need d20 rules for), I missed the initial furor surrounding these threads...but I wandered over to the Valar boards and the threads that TB mentioned. Wow, I'm apparently a Jack Chick supporter because I post here. The irony of people congratulating themselves on how 'mature' they were being while making those sorts of comments was almost worth the load time.

One thing I am struck by after reading the Valar threads is the efforts that some people seem to be going through to generate an 'us vs. them' seige mentality. I mean...wow. It's a d20 book. It's not the Fall of Civilization, it's not the Last Bastion of Free Speech. In the grand scheme of things, it's nothing.

Did you ever know a person who would get so attached to something, and would tell you so earnestly about how great it was, repeatedly and at length, to the point where you were so sick of hearing about it that you completely lost any interest you might have had in the first place?

I believe that it *was* published under the d20 licence, but if you check it out now on the Mongoose website, the d20 is strangely missing (it used to be on the cover picture). :)

However, for those of you who are interested in obtaining a free copy of the BoEF preview (now OGL-only), visit FRP games - they are giving it away for free. Shipping charges still apply though.

Not quite, at least, if it does, Mongoose can be sued for trademark infringement on their advertising on said website.

Everything contained within this tome has a practical use in all fantasy-based d20 System games. But then, Grim is known to play some pretty strange games. .

It is still d20 to my knowledge.

[edit]
From the blip on the blurp at least. There's also that it still has the compatibility/requires D&D PHB boilerplate at the bottom of the cover as well :).
