Bond 007 Binge

So recently I started watching the Daniel Craig Bond movies as I had only seen Spectre and Casino Royale.

So went all the way back to Dr No and watching them with my wife in order on Amazon.

Currently watching Goldfinger.

Last time I did this was late 90's and I haven't seen some of them since.

So far they're still figuring things out. Modern ones were more formulaic. Action opening scene.

Older ones are bit cheesy. The fake stock footage on driving scenes and boat rides are very noticeable.

More grounded as well. Still over the top but not so absurd. They're interesting anyway

I remember thinking the first half was dope. Then, it just gets outlandish by the min. Set up the franchise really.

Pretty much. Each movie adds a bit more to get to what we think by classic bond.

Q, gadgets and car is a thing in Goldfinger.

Goldfinger is also the big example - but also subversion - of the "leave Bond in an elaborate deathtrap" scenario, where he's set to get sliced with a laser on a big block of gold. An iconic example, but Goldfinger doesn't just go away and assume it'll work, he fully intends to stay and watch. And Bond doesn't escape while nobody's looking, Goldfinger changes his mind after learning that the FBI are also observing him, and disappearing a British agent would give them an excuse to move in.

Yeah he talked his way out of it.

Throughly enjoyed Thunderball. I liked the villain and aquatic stuff. Goldfinger and From Russia were good as well. Dr No and Only Live Twice were ok.

I have a soft spot for Live and Let Die. Jane Seymour, New Orleans. I even like Pepper the over the top sheriff. Rotten Tomato ranks it #16 on 27.

Dalton is very good but people were not ready for a more realistic Bond. He ranks #11 and 12.

Never liked Brosnan. But Golden Eye is entertaining.

I have to rewatch From Russia with Love.

Best Bond imho is Casino Royale with Craig.
