Book 11 of The Best Fantasy Series Ever Aproaches!

I did try to read the first book, hated it, stoped about a quarter way though. I don't think I have a fear of huge books. I have all 3 Song of Ice and Fire, the complete Les Miserables, thats over 1500 pages, the complete 3 musketters is over 1000 pages. So I don't have a fear of large books, I have a fear of boring books where nothing much happens.

Actually, it is constant action in the first book since you get through the first quarter! Give it a second chance!

Amazon (and other places) routinely make up release dates so they can take pre-orders and get the money earlier. It's a relatively standard if a bit underhanded of a practice. I would check the newsgroup (I forget what it's called) because the Tor representatives usually post the official date there as soon as it's known.

My opinions on the series can be found elsewhere on the board, but suffice to say I will not be reading this one. Jordan has had his second and third chances and more.

Right on! I love Wheel of Time. Personally, I'd love it if the series were a hundred books. :p

The only thing I don't like is the gap between releases. I forgot everything and have to read the story over again.

I'm going to wait until he finishes and then read the whole thing from beginning to end. :)

And it isn`t like I didn`t enjoy COT, though it wasn`t as awesome as first 5 parts, which I love, it should be treated as one huge book, 10th chapter needs to be a bit slow for the final 2 to rock!

One would think that CoT could have had more than three things happen in the entire book.

Okay, maybe five things happened that mattered in the grand scheme of things.

I'm getting to the point where the Jordan books are going to be boxed up to clear up additional hardcover space for David Gemmell, John Ringo, Neal Stephenson, and David Weber.

I have read it. Well, the first six books. And I have no problem with hue books, being a fan of Stephenson, Martin, and the uncut version of The Stand.
You managed to slog your way through The Stand and you call WoT boring? Wow! I guess it just goes to show how tastes can vary. The only reason I read most of The Stand was because I liked
the deaf guy (name escapes me)
and even that was barely a draw. When
he was killed off
I closed the book and have never looked back. Don't feel like I'm missing anything, either.

That said, I really would like to see Jordan get to the point, already. Sure, the characters are interesting and they have (some) depth, but it would be nice to wrap up a couple of loose ends one of these days. I mean, c'mon, Rand has pretty much figured out
one of the Forsaken is leading his Asha'mon
, but he does nothing about it.

  1. Amazon doesn't get money any earlier with pre-orders, as they don't actually charge you until your order ships (and you can cancel your order until it's being prepped for shipping). Pre-ordering from Amazon isn't a great idea, because pre-orders tend to ship later than waiting until the release date and placing an order then.
  2. The newsgroup is rec.arts.sf.written.robert-jordan .

That makes no sense, should'nt they fill in the pre orders first? I never bought anything online, so I don't know.

Jordan may have an epic story he wants to tell, but he needs to learn which parts can be left out. I stopped reading at book six because I stopped caring.

Those parts being anything about Elaine. She's a huge loose end that is both boringand irritating, and should have been resolved no later than WH. All she does is waste ink and paper in CoT.

Hate to break it to ya, but the best fantasy book series is up to way more than 11 books. At last count, there were 31 Discworld novels released (and that's not counting peripheral things like "A Tourist Guide to Lancre"), and the 32nd one is coming Real Soon Now (according to lspace.org, it's supposed to be released in April or May 2004).

And "only" 624 pages? The longest Discworld book I have is ~450 pages. If you can't tell a complete story in over 5,000 pages (I don't know how many pages Wheel of Time is, but it's got to be more than that since 624 pages is short for a WoT book, and there are already ten books in the series), you need an editor to cut your books down to size.
