Book of Vile Pie Recipes

First Post
After reading much of the various "Vile Darkness" and "Orc and Pie" threads, I have come to the conclusion that Monte is setting us up for his next release... "The Book of Vile Pie Recipes". In a vain attempt to beat him to it however, I invite DM's and players to post their most interesting in-game encounters with food (no not like in "American Pie"). I myself have had PC's enjoy libations unique to my game world, the Dwarven Slammer comes to mind, a drink whose recipe is passed through generations of Dwarven Bartenders and jealously guarded. The in-game affect is to render the imbiber unconscious for 2d10 hours if they miss a fortitude save of DC 15 for the first drink with a +2 modifier for each successive drink within a 12 hour period. I have also had certain Inns be of such abiding comfort and that players received various benefits from stays there, such as a +1 Enhancement bonus to Con while staying there and for one day after.... Anybody else care to share stories of how they enhanced RP through food and drink?

Steeltoe's Ale. The single, best ale in the world. A family secret that goes back about 5,000 years. The national drink of the Dwarven Nations. Then there's the Toast "Grum the Stout". Just say the toast and all the dwarves will respond and finish whatever drink is in front of them.

Then there's Stew. Nothing really special about the Stew except in one adventure we passed through the same kitchen five times. Each time a different player asked what was cooking, the answer being Stew. By the time the last person asked, the poor wizard who hadn't heard becasue he was looking through his spells, the rest of the table shouted "Stew"!! To this day with that group, anytime a person asks a question that was just previously answered we call out "Stew".

Last year I was running the first Freeport module. My PCs were looking for the Orc Pirate, Captain Scarbelly, and were told that he was in a tavern nearby.

They went to the tavern to talk to him, and he was eating Fishhead stew. He would spoon a fishhead into his mouth, suck all the "goodness" out of it, then spit it out.

He soon spat it out at the Dwarf PC. Said Dwarf then ordered his own bowl of fishhead stew, and spat a head at the Orc, who found it hilarious.

You know, this reminds me of Tika Waylands Cookbook. I remember actually trying a few out. Like Fizbans Fireball Curry.

There's the Dwarven Bread of Terry Pratchett's Discworld. It is made with powdered stone instead of flour, it doesn't go stale for decades, and it is said that a loaf of dwarven bread can keep you going without other food for days (if only because the prospect of eating it can vanish even the nastiest hunger). You need a pick to cut it, though.

As for me, I've recently had PCs eating slaad steaks.

I once used a troll as a bribe to get myself into the chieftanship of my tribe. We lashed him down pretty effectively and carved Troll steaks out of his hide for months.

Of course, we were all lizard men. And he did get away and kill dozens of my people before we finally managed to kill him. Oops.

i recently ran a game where the PCs were young Cormyrian nobles, so they had the money to enjoy meals like: Dragon's Breath Beer (a Sembian brew of strong, harsh temperament) with dark rye bread and catoblepa's Death Cheese (milked by blind monks!) --courtesy of Aurora's Whole Realms Catalogue

In one campaign we have two special brews. We found three magical fruit trees. One bears white peaches, which get you instantly drunk for 24 hours - no hangover though. One bears white cherries which heal you. One bears white apples which slay you. We make peach mead and cherry brandy from the first two. A single peach is set in a dunn during fermentation. A very smooth beverage with a kick like a dire mule. No hangover though. The pit is recovered and makes a Cure Disease potion. This mead is has been adopted at the Imperial household. The cherry brandy acts as a potion of Cure Light Wounds.
