Boosting skill points

How disruptive would it be to boost the skill points for various classes? I am thinking of adjusting the skill points per level to 4 for every class except those who are defined by their skills (rogue, bard?, akashic). They either remain at 8 per level or are boosted to that point if lower. I am considering this as I am desiring to have skills be more useful to other classes, and to enourage some cross class use. For example, I would expect a fighter to be able to Climb or Jump with out too much trouble, but then I can't have the player benefit from using Concentration to minimize situational penalties. (A house rule that I adapted from a Monte Cook product.) It's been my experieince that a character either has X + INT bonus effective skills or a greater number of ineffective skills. It's almost pointless to have skills you want to depend on if you have 2 skill points per level.

yeah, give +2 to all classes - if you don't, then that's unfair for all. Also reember that your monsters skills will have to be bumped up as well.

Cheers

I think +2 to each class works better, otherwise you shortchange classes like the Druid and Monk who get 4, or the Rogue or Akashic, who get 8

I'd suggest giving 50% more base skill points instead of just a flat +2, as even the +2 tends to make the high-skill classes lose some of their relative allure.

The 12 point rogue... OOoh :)

Yes, but would that be so bad?

There would be two "skill levels". Those who get 4 per level, and those classes who get 8.

I perfer the +2. The idea is to really give skill points to those classes that need them. The other way just rewards those who already have a lot.

Well, that's the point, to me. Although giving more skill points is good, I actually do not want to help the low-skill classes catch up to the others because it removes the incentive to multiclass into Rogue for skill points.
