Boots of S&S, Expeditious Retreat

I guess. There's some very silly rulings coming out of the Sage. Remember the one that allowed recursive simulacrum loops?

I would hope not. Otherwise, what's the point of getting into the discussion?

Nope. What was that all about? Was it discussed here? I'll see if I can find it. Sounds interesting.

The Sage ruled that simulacrums have XP and can cast spells.

Which, of course, allows simulacrums to create more simulacrums. Combine that with the bizzare interaction between simulacrum and Empower Spell, and you've got a real problem on your hands.

Edit: Of course, that different type of bonuses reasoning can be applied to the boots and expeditious retreat. One gives an enhancement bonus, the other is a multiplier.

Ugh. I hadn't even considered Empowered simulacrums of dragons. I can feel my campaign world disintegrating already.

I can almost hear people raiding chapels and stealing holy relics to create simulacrums of gods.

Sooooo.... how far could a level 18 monk move while wearing Boots of S&S and under the effects of Fly and Expeditious Retreat, and descending at double-speed in a double-move?

This is a fun topic. Heh heh heh. :D

Not only did the Sage say they can cast spells and have XP but WOTC have published an adventure in Dungeon #89 called "Headless" that used Simulacrums of the main antagonist which was a Necromancer-Loremaster and all four of them had up to 4th level spells to use against the PC in the adventure.

Why would you limit a simulacrum from casting spells as the original (though reduced in caster level)?
I assume you would allow a simuacrum of fighter to use the fighter feats and swing a sword? Or a Barbarian Simulacrum to rage?
What would be the difference in allowing spellcasting by a Simulacrum?
Just think of the adventure possibilities you lose out on by limiting that? "The PC's only thought they killed their enemy until he melted into snow. Now they have to worry where he is and will he attack while they are weakened after fighting his Sim?"

Also keep in mind that Empower only increases the variable numeric effects by 50%. The variable here is 1d10%. You get 5% increase at most per empower used. 1 use and the spell is now 8th level, for 10% it is 10th, ect... for 100% (the maximum you should be able to get of someone) it would take a 22nd level spell slot using empower 7 times! Not possible except in the most EPIC of campaigns.

As far a creating one of a god...those relics better be body parts of the god as per the Material components.

Actually first empower and the spell is 9th level already since it is a 7th level spell normally. And yep, only a 5% increase, not anywhere near much help. Especially for blowing a 9th level spell or spell slot on it.

Well the Monk would have two movement speeds.

One land, One Flight

The flight one is 90 x2 x2 or 360' as Fly spell gives you a fly speed of 90'.

Land speed would be the monks speed x2 x2.

This is not a case for D&D multiples as the second x2 is from a double move.
