Bordell's Tales, Chapter 2: Broken Sword

Xavier turns around to say goodbye to Snow. Walking back to his seat after Snow leaves, Xavier thinks out loud, "Well, I hope Snow knows what he's doing. The sooner we leave, the better, and we have no way to defend ourselves. Horses would be nice, but probably hard to come by."

You pass the day to relax and gather some food and clothing for the travel. You are a bit limited on teh clothing, as your old outfit have been torn by your little trip in the river. Jade have mend it as she could, which is enough for your need around this house, but you think you'll need something more for the travel. Even if the spring is here, the night are still cold.

Early in the morning, you awake. Snow has just arrived. As he enter, you see him with some clothing in his hand, and a crude studded leather armor. "Xavier, I think that will help you for now. The tribe I have met have decided to leave during teh night, ubt they left behind them many things, so I allowed myself to take a few thing for our travel. They also gives us some light horses and a donkey they got and doesn't use."

He hands you an outfit made of leather and furs and the studded leather armor. You take it and Jade, Snow and you gather the provision you have rpepared to put it on the donkey. As you get out, you put the stock on the animal and you see the horses have saddle. You approach it and recognize a mark on the saddle. They bear the mark of Sadder, the responsible of the stable of the order.

You look at the saddlebag content. you see all what you need for campin. You also have a shortbow and a short sword. "It will help to hunt and defend ourselves. I don't think your broken sword will be of much help for now." Once you are prepared, Jade look at you. "It is your quest, sir knight, where do you want to go?" smiling at you.

[SBLOCK=OOC]A note from now on. Snow and Jade, as long as they travel with you, will most likely to follow your order, so in combat, you can suggest them strategy. Except if they have serious reason to not obey, they will follow your order. I will post there stats this week in the RG, but for now, I'll tell you that Jade is a Bard lvl4 and Snow is a Spirit Shaman lvl4.[/SBLOCK]

<Sir knight... and on a quest... surely Crian would approve.> "Well, Jade, the Elves of Faranor are to the north. That's our destination, though I hope they are willing to talk before they fight."

Xavier tries to hide his anticipation, "Thank you for the supplies and the help." He points to the mark on the saddle, "Snow, do you think it would be possible to find the person to whom this mark belongs?" He looks at the saddle with high expectations. <I think I can get used to this seat.>

"If he left last night, maybe we can catch them quickly. Unless this was in the possession of someone else, this man may know of other Knights of Crian." Xavier is still a little worn from the past months, but he puts on his armor and equips the weapons. He still knows how to ride a horse, though, and mounting the horse brings back some muscle memories.

<Sir knight... possibly dangerous, but I still like the sound of it> Xavier spurs the horse, ready to go.

[sblock]Is it a light warhorse or a light horse? It sounds like a military saddle, am I correct?

If I think I can find Sadder, I'd like to go to him first to see if he knows about any Knights of Crian that are left, or to see what he knows about the Order. If not, we'll go straight to the Elves.[/sblock]

"It is the tribe I have visited that was owning these horse. They got it lately after defeating some scouts from Gaile's army. It would be hard to track back the person who marked these saddles I think." tells Snow.

Understanding your chance to track back to Sadder was almost impossible, you decide to leave the small house where you has stayed for now almost nine month.

-=-=-= 5 days laters =-=-=-

You have been travelling north east and have reach the cost in two days with your horses. From there, you been travelling east noth east, following the coast. During your days of ride, you've met some camp site. Snow tells you there has been a small tribe here, but they have left, most liekly travelling south east, fleeing Gaile's army.

Around noon, on the fifth day, you feels the grounds is starting to become more spongious, and the horses have more difficulty to move. Foward, you see a forest rising, but it looks like a bit hollow. Snow stops his horse and jump on the ground. He kneels down and grab a small bit of the heb on the ground. "We are not more on firm ground, it is a swamp. We are in lands I've never been, I can't tell you what await us foward. The straigthest route would be to continue through the swamp. We can also travel east and pass around."

[SBLOCK=OOC]They are light horses with riding saddle. If the horses come from the same place than the saddle, most likely they were horses for messengers.

Also, are you familiar with the concept of action dices of Eberon. At level 6, you shoudl have 8 action dices. These action dices are d6 dices that you can add to a roll. You choose to spend an action dice after you roll but before you know the result.

Example: If you save against a basilisk gaze, and you roll a 10, you might want to spend an action dice. You roll a 5. You think it is ok and decide to keep a 15. The DC was 14... you saved against the creature gaze, and get ready to dice it...

I've chosen to introduce that rule to represent the hero aspect or your character and also gives a way to get out of a bad roll, as I won't fudge the dices.[/SBLOCK]

[sblock]I was asking about the saddle because a military saddle gives some minor bonuses that a riding saddle doesn't

Am I fully recuperated from my coma yet?[/sblock]
Xavier gets off the saddle and stretches his legs. Riding all of this time is tiring for anyone, and even a few seconds of being off the saddle helps. He feels the ground to try to understand what Snow is talking about, though he knows to defer to Snow anyway. "To my knowledge, we are not in an extreme time crunch. Let's go around the swamp, to the east. Are the Elves are supposedly on the other side of this swamp? How much farther is it?" He looks around to try to gather his bearings and then remounts his horse.

"I don't know how far they are..." starts Snow, but he is cut by Jade. "They lives at one month ride from Gaile's capital. That's what the only elf I met told. We are almost at two weeks of ride from the capital I think, so it is not near here. If we continue east, we would most liekly end at Greenvale, and from there, we can always asks for the quickest route to Faranor." she suggest.

On that you continue east. You have to go south a bit to not enter the swamp and reach a road. You decide to continue on it for some time, to ease your horses that have been riding on more difficult ground for the whole week. That would help them to relax a bit. You spend the night in a small bush of trees near the road and sleep there relaxing, but keeping someone on watch as you aren,t familiar with the danger of this region.

You continue the day after and continue to travel during the day. You ride in front of some cultivated land in mid afternoon. You guess you haev reach the edge of a cultivating community. You see no one working in the field, but you see a few cattle relaxing in a field. As far as you know they could be at the market or in there house and continu to travel, favoring to reach the village before the night and maybe find some shelter and supply before the night, as your reserve of food have grown thin, and Snow's hunt are slowing you down and aren't enough for your need.

The road edge a small wooded area on the south side of the road, a long herb feild on the left, not yet eaten by the cattle who hasn't come that far yet. The day have been cloudless, and the dry wind from the south have been bringing hot air, and the sun havn't helped you. You welcome the trees that cover with shadow the road and block the wind, giving you some freshness in that hot day, where you start to find you fur's outfit a bit too hot for the coming summer. Another thing to correct, but now you are thinking of it, you havn't a single copper piece on you and that might give you some difficulty to supply your group, or buy some lighter clothing. It is while you are thinking of that that you see a fallen tree in the middle of the road, who has partially broken the wooden fence on the north side of the road.

Xavier nods, happy to have Jade along, "That sounds like a good idea, Jade."

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Upon continuing, there is a fallen tree in the middle of the road. Xavier says in a low tone, "If we were going to be ambushed, that fallen tree would be an obvious place for out attackers to plan it." Xavier looks into the trees, "Snow, what do you think?"

"I am feeling..." Snows doesn't have the time to finish his sentence that he is cut by a voice behind you. "Clever boy." You three turns around and see a goblin in the middle of the road. The goblin is wearing a chainshirt and a metal shield and have short sword and a dagger at his belt. He looks at you with his dull yellow eyes. His hairy hand is on the guard of his sword, ready to draw it. "A large three in front of you and a fence on your right, but could hardly jump over with your horses. You would have difficulty to progress in the forest to your left, and what a nice hiding place for the people who have set the ambush... that's leave the road behind you, someone would need to block you way. A poor little goblin alone, that's no treat, but what do you think of two worg riders." As he tells that, two goblins mounted on develish wolf get out of the forest and stop in front of the goblin who was speaking with you. "Hand out your weapon and you'll have a chance to get of here alive!"
