Boston EN World game day on Saturday, January 29th

And this is where I realize that even though I made the decision in my own mind, I never thought to actually report it...

The game will be Marvel Superheroes (the original "FASERIP" version), in which a mob of misbegotten misfits shall meddle in the machinations of a mad malefactor!

P-cat can tell you, this game has very little in the way of a learning curve, so have no fear that you don't know the system. All required rules will be taught, pregenerated characters will be provided, standard disclaimers about how you shouldn't jump off of buildings just 'cause you saw a superhero do it inserted here.

Wow, I used to play that Marvel system back in Wisconsin. It was a blast, even though my character had some pretty lame powers. To make up for it I made her rich and funded the group. :)

The original Marvel game's one of my favorites. I recently acquired a copy again and am waiting for it to arrive. Those of you who haven't played it should have fun. It's a neat system.

And, Wulf, that prep-work sounds awesome. I can't wait to see how the game plays out.

As Glassjaw pointed out, "Battlemaps? That sounds like... combat. You realize we only have 4 hours, right?"

So, fair warning: let's keep things moving, reavers.

Hi Betsy, your GreyRat acc't is set not to receive e-mail. You can reach me at chuangtzu13 at yahoo.com. I'm eagerly anticipating playing in your game! Thanks, NRG.

P-cat, it doesn't look like you noticed (or at least acknowledged) my last post (which I've now edited and should be ignored) but I figured just in case I'd post something specifically about disregarding it. ;)

I just have a feeling this is going to be like No Limit Grim Tales Hold 'Em. Whoever is left standing is the winner. :D

One of my fondest early-gaming memories was running a Marvel Tournament of Champions. A few friends and I took all the heroes and villains that came with the old boxed set and created a huge tournament bracket and mapped out an arena. We then drew names and put them in the brackets and we took turns fighting each other. It was a blast and we still talk about it to this day (jeez, that was like 15 years ago). If I remember, Silver Surfer defeated the Hulk for the title.

Attention Northern Crown players:

If you have a 3.5e PHB, you’re welcome to bring it with you for Saturday’s game. I’ll have pregen characters for you, just to save time. Here’s a preliminary character list – if you want to claim one, post to this thread and I’ll reserve it for you. I’m also open to tweaks/suggestions for your character, so if you have a character concept that fits 17th Century America or Europe, let me know about it!

All characters are 7th level:

Sophian Natural Philosopher 7 – The nominal party leader, an officer of Philathelias Jeferson’s Armie of Discoverie. Natural philosophers are baroque-era scientists who can use little clockwork gizmos and other apparatus to create spell-like effects. They also gain spell resistance and, as masters of reason and logic and enemies of superstition, can turn the undead!

Cherokee Druid 3/Raider 4 – Assigned to the party to escort them through Cherokee lands, you can work some druidic magic and kick some serious butt as a raider. The raider core class features some class abilities of both barbarians and rangers – the ultimate frontier fighter.

Sophian Agent 7 – Agents are highly skilled operatives, with sneak attack and disguise abilities, and the power to sense and react to hidden dangers.

Kelt Soldier 7 – The brawn of the outfit. The soldier core class is an evolution of the fighter, skilled with gunplay and likely to be adept at fencing and other martial arts of the period. This PC is a mountain renegado, descended from escaped indentured servants who have established clans in the Mountains of Smoke.

Français Witch 7 – The witch core class has a unique spell list centered on spells that heal, curse, conceal, and reveal. Witches have imps instead of spellbooks; think of imps as a combo of a spellbook and (very pumped up) familiar.

Sophian/Shawnee Scout 7 – Scouts are stealthy frontier travelers. They have excellent survival and marksmanship skills, and can make ranged sneak attacks at an impressive distance. Think of a ranger updated to the early modern era, without the spellcasting ability.

The mission will take the party to a wild section of the interior to recover a codebook from a crashed Vandalian aerostatic ship (Boo! Hiss! All you need to know is that the Vandalians are a renegade state of nefarious natural philosophers and warmongers). If recovered, the codebook could be a great asset to the Republic of Sophia! Jeferson and Franklyn are counting on you!
