Looks like you guys had a lot of fun and I'm glad to hear it. It's interesting to me the different dynamics of the Game Days I've attended (just the NC ones so far) and the others that I've seen threads about. Yours is obviously in a very casual environment (Pkitty and KidCthulhu's home) vs. our in the State University Student Center. If I had my way about it, I'm not sure which I'd prefer.
The advantages to the "home based" game would likely be comfort since it looks like a lot of your seating is on sofas and "comfy chairs", though I have nothing but good things to say about the chairs at the student center. We use pairs of 2' x 8' tables pushed together to give us these BIG 4' x 8' playing surfaces that I love for when I whip out my 36" x 48" battlemat and still have plenty of room on the table for books, character sheets and extra figures and such. But it also means that the other people and the center of the table can get far away (I've often joked that I need a croupier to move figs around the battlemat).
The one other thing that strikes me as a difference is with all our games going in the same room that we can sometimes have a noise issue when things get rowdy at another table. But any annoyance at that phenomenon is offset by the moments of hilarity when you hear an out of context bit of coversation drift over from a nearby table. I can still recall the first NC Game Day when we heard a loud but curious voice from Henry's table ask, "How do the zombies pay the rent?!" By far the best "out of context" quote from the most recent Game Day was from NCSUCodeMonkey's Grimm game: "Called Shot to the MUFFIN!"
I guess none of that is really all that relevant but, since I'm one of the people who organizes the NC events, I keep an eye out for the formats that other Game Days use. In the end all that is important is the fun and it looks like we both pulled that off in grand style. Glad you all had such fun and if you're ever in NC...
