Both Adversaries Blinking

So if a person with Blink attacks a person with blink (via Spell or Melee or Ranged)

What are the chances?
Since you have a 20% of shooting in the wrong plane
and the opponent has a 50% of changing planes

I would say... 50%?
Since if you attack wrong (20%) there's a 50% he doesn't go ethereal
and if you attack right (80%) there's a 50% he goes ethereal...

What are your thoughts?
Are there any official rulings? (there should be at least interpretations...)

I think you might have two separate miss chances in that case, and roll them separately. I don’t know where in the rules this might be addressed, though.

If they are both blinking, I'd say just ignore it. They cancel each other out. Personally it seems to be a waste of time rolling constant miss chances, and you might as well just do combat normally. You could just rule that Blink spells are evenly timed, so they are blinking in and out at the exact same rate.

Per your description, I didn't check the book
80%*50% = 0.8*0.5 = 0.4 => 40%
edit: 40% of hitting your target

Matafuego, I think you've got it right. It seems no matter which plane you attack on there's a 50% chance that he's there, so your own blinking doesn't matter.

Assuming neither combatant can see into the Ethereal plane while they're not there, you also have weird issues of concealment. However, I would just let those cancel since they affect both attack (+2 while blinking normally) and defense (20% miss chance for concealment) and half the time when one combatant is ethereal, the other one is, too.

False because when the opponent is there there is 20% chances you aren't

Right but you also have to include the case when you were on the wrong plane and he blinks with you:

20%*50% = 0.2*0.5 = 0.1 (+ 0.4 from above) = 50%

I don't think so, there is no correlation between the two. The only thing you know is at any moment you have 20% of not being there and your opponent 80%

therefore at any moment
0.8*0.5 = 40% both are there
0.2*0.5 = 10% both are gone
0.8*0.5 = 40% you are there he is not
0.2*0.5 = 10% you are not there he is.
----------
100%

But if "both are gone" that means they're in the same place. There's only two planes involved, so if a third party is reporting events, your chart looks like this:

0.8*0.5 = 40% both are Material
0.2*0.5 = 10% both are Ethereal
0.8*0.5 = 40% you are Material he is Ethereal
0.2*0.5 = 10% you are Ethereal there he is Material.
----------
100%

And in the cases "both are Material" and "both are Ethereal" you can hit.
