When does an Order of the Bow Initiate with the Free Attack ability get to use it?

I don't have Sword and Fist here...

Once a round, when one of your allies makes an AoO in your line of sight.

So the ally has to take the opportunity? If he passes on it, no deal?

Cool. Thanks.

Sorry about that, it says "gains" not "makes".
12:30 am here :)

WOW that is even better than getting an attack of oppertunity. Normally cover would prevent an attack of oppertunity (even cover provided by and intervining ally), but not in this case.

I can hear all the pages turning back in the DMs notebooks as they scribble in a new Rule 0

See, I was reading Karinsdad's theory about how a Disarm can provoke an AoO even from an opponent who doesn't threaten you. Because it doesn't say "you provoke an AoO from a defender who threatens you", it just says ""you provoke an AoO from the defender".

And reading carefully, from what I can see...

Casting a spell provokes AoOs from opponents who threaten you.

Making a ranged attack just provokes AoOs. No mention of being in a threatened area. You shoot, you provoke.

Normally, of course, this makes no difference. Because while everyone who can see you gains an AoO against you... if they don't threaten you, they can't hit you.

But the OotBI can...

But he can also use a full round action to leave you flat footed when he shoots you if your within 20' of a wall too.
Now that's a really great power if your fighting a dex defender, auto sneak-attack, good stuff.
