BOYCOTT of Wotc miniatures

i'll keep picking up a few boosters from each set as long as i think they're worthwhile. (and the quality appears to be going up with each set, too.)

I can barely speak in coherent sentences when talking about how much I love the Dragoneye set. :D There just aren't many stinkers in it and the paint jobs are actualy pretty good too.

If you don't like it, then don't buy it. Sooner or later, Wizards will get the message and cancel the miniatures line (including planned Star Wars) altogether.

Simple as that.

Well-said.

I have no problem with the price increase - I hope it signals an increase in labor costs, but I somehow doubt it. The corebooks were marketed in a similar vein if I recall correctly.

The nice thing about this price increase from my point of view is perhaps folks knee deep in the plastic may look at pewter a little harder. For folks around home I charge $12 for a decent paint job and I know several other fellows that do a nice job for considerably less.

My point is you could buy a Reaper fig you know you want and hire someone to paint it for about as much as the new booster price. Something to consider when you have all of the commons and uncommons you want and are looking for just that one rare monster for your upcoming campaign.

PS - This is NOT an advertisement for my painting - I am not accepting any commissions in the near future. There are plenty of folks near you willing to paint for a reasonable price - just ask around or go to Bartertown.

Well, Wotc has decided to reward our continued support of their minis line by screwing us with a 30% price increase on every booster pack, raising the retail from 9.99 to 12.99. It would seem that's what we get for making their miniatures a success.

Pissed? Yeah, me too.

So here's what I propose...

We draw a line in the sand and boycott all Wotc minis until they agree to reverse their price change.

Let's show them they can't keep doing this to us.
Sluggo, meet Capitalism. Capitalism, meet Sluggo.

Bummer.

But I still think the're a great deal, and maybe I'll actually be able to find them more regularly.

The dragoneye is soooo much better than the harbinger. Better minis. More useful minis. And much better distribution of commons, uncommons and rares. Of 7 boxes I've only got like two uncommon and one rare duplicates. Witht he first set it felt like I was getting the same box time after time. Last two boxes I got felt a bit like that too, but then I realised that it was because I had already got every common in the set so of course I was going to get duplicates of elf spear warriors and dretchs. But really, how often do you meet just one dretch?

With the current pricing you purchase them at $1.25 per mini. Under the new pricing they will cost $1.63. That's an increase of 38 cents each. By comparison, the average unpainted pewter mini still costs about $3.50 each. So, you are still getting these for almost $2 under what you would pay for an often unassembled pewter mini that you have to paint yourself. Sure, you can make that pewter mini much more pretty, but really, how many of us have boxes of unpainted pewter lying forgotten somewhere in our house? I know I do.

The problem with this argument is that with metal minis you know what you're buying beforehand; with the WotC packs, you're buying 8 random minis. Those who try to collect a full set usually end up with a dozen or more duplicates of one or more crappy Common (human commoner from Harbinger, Wolverine-wannabe dwarf barbarian from Dragoneye come to mind).

So at $1.25 a pop, the 14 dwarf barbarians I despise and will never use have only cost me $17.50; with the price increase, that jumps up to about $22.82. Suddenly these minis don't look like such a bargain.

Others have said said that the price increase is no big deal because companies often offer new products at a lower introductory price, and that the WotC miniature lines seem to be improving in quality with each set. Well, I don't recall WotC saying that Harbinger and Dragoneye were specially-priced at their launch. In fact, most people I talked to about the minis thought they were over-priced. As for improving quality...yes, I found the Dragoneye minis much-improved over the Harbingers. But one jump in quality does not a trend make....

So I guess I agree for the most part with the original poster. I'm feeling stabbed in the back, though I'm not gonna try to organize a big protest. I'll simply vote with my wallet. If I buy the Archfiends line, I'll do so from an online bulk seller where I can get the cheapest price. My FLGS will lose my business and share the pain from the price increase. Or maybe I'll skip Archfiends altogether and practice a little fiscal responsibility...I really shouldn't be spending hundreds of dollars on little plastic army men in the first place ;)

You can put me in the "will probably buy less but don't feel like WOTC is a jerk for rasing the price" camp.

I am certainly more concerned about every book being $30 now.

I would be happy to take those 14 dwarf barbarians off your hands. I mean, what DM would not want 14 dwarf barbarians? There is so much you could do with 14 dwarf barabarians.

In fact, i propose we try and come up with as many reasons as posible for using 14 dwarf barabarian minis in a D&D game.

I haven't been as active on the boards as usual so I must have missed it. When and where did they announce this?
