BOYCOTT of Wotc miniatures

I have not been buying these in the first place because of the random aspect. I'd be willing to pay $12.99 for a box if I knew what I was getting ahead of time, but I am not willing to pay $9.99 for a box if they're randomly packed and I have no idea what I'm getting.

A 30% price increase is rather steep if it's for the Archfiends release. The $12.99 didn't bother me at all for the Giants release becasue it includes a huge creature.

Since I've bought so many, I've decided to buy 'em by the case rather than individually, so my cost per box, even with a 30% increase, will still be less than $10 per pack.

I have no talent for assembling/painting pewter minis, so I'll happily buy the plastic. I just hope the sets stop including things such as "human commoner" - I think I have about 6 of those - bleh.

I'm looking forward to a beholder mini - whenever that appears. :)

I already pre-ordered 2 cases at the old discounted price @ gameoutfitter.com. I am a shill. ;)

The increase will not stop me from buying my usual amount. I went overboard with Harbinger and learned my lesson, as did WotC with the distribution. I picked up 2 cases of Dragoneye and am only missing 3 rares. In addition, I have all the extras of the mooks that I want. I also have little interest in the actual wargame as I use them for my weekly D&D session.

It seems that for expansions of 60 figures, 2 cases is the way to go for me. Sure, it costs just over $200 but I'd probably just spend that money anyway by stopping in to the FLGS over the months. And without the internet discount that would net me less figures.

Now, the Giants of Legend expansion will have more figures and therefore I will be spending more money to get the extra figures but at least I will know far in advance and can save up a little extra. I plan on saving the money that I would normally spend on new RPG book releases on the minis. I have found that if you wait a bit, ebay prices really save some cash in the long run. WotC have run out of books I absolutely need so I can wait a bit to pick up things like Complete Warrior.

They still get me in the end but at least it is on my terms. :)

I've seen (and bought, damn they're adicting) lots here in toronto.
And since I think I'm already getting them from my FLGS for below market value a price increase isn't a big deal.

Where in Toronto? I haven't seen them.

Well, I don't recall WotC saying that Harbinger and Dragoneye were specially-priced at their launch.

Why would they? They (like any business) are under no obligation to do so and it would undermine their new product line of they were to tell everyone that, by the way, the price will be going up in a couple months. Better to hook people early for cheap and then gradually increase the price. Business 101.

But where and when did WotC say the price was changing. I still haven't found where the minis are priced at $12.99.

(edit)Thanks to Demerro, I'll be busy pulling my foot out of my mouth for a while.

The original poster gave no reference to back up his claim. BigFreakinGoblinoid mentioned that he had seen an unconfirmed press release on a message board thread.

I'll wait for confirmation before I get concerned.

Agreed. I'll keep buying the minis either way, but I'm not jumping at an unconfirmed press release...

I've been getting mine at The Hairy Tarantula (354 Yonge Street) and I've also seen them at the Indigo in the Manulife center. They're on $12.17 ($14 with tax) at the HairyT, 15+tax at Indigo.

Unconfirmed press release at an unidentified messageboard.

(edit) The rumor is rampant at the WotC boards as well, but the only source given is one distributor's pricing in their catalog. So far, the other distributors still list the minis at $9.99.
Still no indication of an official announcement on the new price.

(edit)Busy pulling other foot out of my mouth.
