Bracers of Mighty Striking: Near Useless?

Bracers of the Perfect Shot?
'cos there are times, such as being shot from a rooftop or flying foes, when hurling a hand axe is a good option .. especially since a Fighter can mark from range.

Why would you take an item that only benefits ranged basic attacks when an item is available that benefits melee basic attacks, on a character who will make far more melee basic attacks than ranged basic attacks? Especially when the ranged basic attack item is more expensive?

Forgive me if I'm missing something here (I hope I am), but the Bracers of Mighty Striking seem really bad to me. Two more damage on my basic melee attacks? Well, I guess that applies to OAs, but basic melee attacks are used so rarely otherwise that I'm having a hard time seeing the point of this item.

Is there something I'm missing here? Forgive me if this has been brought up before, but I didn't see anything in the collected errata about it...

A player of mine has Bracers of Mighty striking for his warlock. He has a pact blade, and since no at will attacks of the warlock are melee attacks all attacks with his pact blade are basic. So it is now a +1 to hit and +3 on damage.

The fighter in my group is commonly finds himself facing a guy that he has no desire to Tide of Iron, and there's nothing to Cleave. Sounds like a great time to hit harder with a basic attack. :)

How is he getting +2 damage from something that increases melee basic attacks by making ranged basic attacks?

I think the 'lock is actually stabbing stuff ...
Personally, if I'm going that route, I'd buy an implement and a magic spear separately, and upgrade the implement more often.
Depending on how many plusses you skip, it could easily be cheaper than using a pact blade while doing more damage (though with no automatic cursed minion explosion).

I'd say about half of your attacks will be basic attacks - You only have 4 encounter attacks a day from level 11+?

So I'd say its pretty decent.
