Brainiac Attacks

Luthor's skin tone has always been the same as Superman's in StAS. The DC Animated tone for black skin can be seen in Steel (John Henry Irons), GL John Stewart and in Ron Troupe.

If anything, Lex is more Latino than anything in that picture.

It's no big deal to me really. But I was always under the assumption that they had made Lex a black man for the StAS and JLA animated series. *shrug*

Here is a picture of Steel for a skin tone comparision. Luthor is white, this movie is just pretty crappy all around. Its easier to tell in the actual series and in JL and JLU.

This was unbelieveably terrible. I'm so glad I caught the last hour of this travesty Saturday as I was going to buy it tomorrow. The voices for the three main characters were bad enough, but the manner in which they were all handled was horrific. Is it me or did the producers/writers of Superman: TAS have less than nothing to do with this? I knew there was something wrong when I saw the name...

Well, at least there're the two DVDs coming out tomorrow to look foward to. :)

Like I said at the beginning, it was apparently done by the people behind The Batman. It does make me wonder why WB didn't have Timm work on this, though. Now that JLU is over, is he no longer associated with WB? Was it a matter of not being able to work with him, or did they just not care?

As to the "Is Luthor black?" question, I have seen interviews where the creators have said that a lot of people think that, but he isnt'. I'm more interested in knowing why Mercy's hair kept changing from blonde to brown between shots (especially since she wasn't a blonde in Superman: TAS to begin with).

Anyway, I taped it to watch later, but I did see bits and pieces and those were terrible. I will force myself to watch it, but I'm not looking forward to it.

I just got this off of Wikipedia, so you can take it for what it's worth:

Superman: Animated Adventures is the new Superman cartoon due to air in Fall 2006 for Cartoon Network. The new series is unrelated to the Bruce Timm and Paul Dini produced Superman: The Animated Series. The only confirmed information known is that Lois Lane, Lex Luthor, Clown, Bizarro and Ra's Al Ghul will appear in the new series. The show will apparently guest star "The Batman". There been rumors that it will include Mooey a magical whale god. His character will be similar to Mxyzptlk.

If this is true, and I hope to Mooey the Magical Whale God it isn't, it looks like Supes will be getting a "The Batman" makeover. Considering the folks behind that show turned out the craptastic Brainiac Attacks, I think we've got a sneak preview of what we're in for. :(

I agree with you there. I can't stand the new Batman cartoon. I'll not hold out much hope for a new Superman series if Timm and Dini aren't involved.

No he hasn't.

I think a lot of this misconception doesn't even have to do with the skin tone, but rather the completely bald head and generally beefy build. Not something you tend to see on caucasians.

Actually, I think it's his lips. Most white characters, particularly protagonists, are not drawn with prominent lips. Giving him the slightly darker tone to most of the other primary characters also sets him apart as the villain. I don't know that the build or even the bald head have anything to do with it as the Luthor in Byrne's (excellent) overhaul was also stocky and bald, but was never mistaken for black or even mulatto.

DESPAIR!

Although... the Talk page on the article says it's a hoax.
