ZEITGEIST Brainstorming for ZEITGEIST 5th edition

Using the MM3 Lolth who automatically dominates everyone who hits her? I'm surprised it was such a cakewalk -- MM3 and newer, even tougher solos are what I was thinking of in terms of creating set piece "boss battles" in 4E epic tier. Sadly Quinn Murphy's At-Will blog has disappeared from the internet, but the worldbreaker solo concept presented there was excellent. There were a few other souped up solo concepts around the same time, and Angry DM did a decent job of summarizing them.

In any case, I agree that epic tier is problematic as published. Despite trying to achieve a 30-level sweet spot, 4E is still best in heroic just like every other edition of D&D so far. You'll definitely need to amp up "boss monster" resistances and contend with the fact that every character will have a "once per day, when you die, do something absurd" trigger. In my wife's Tomb of Horrors game, our dragonborn warlord resurrects as a gargantuan shadow dragon if he somehow manages to die.

Things get crazy. Plan accordingly. :P
