Brewing potions question

Can I brew potions of any spell that has a range of Personal? I.e., potions of True Strike and Mirror Image? If not, what are the limits of potions?

Ask your DM. Technically, you could make a True Strike potion, and even one of Mirror Image.

No, you can make potions for any spell 3rd level or lower that targets a creature or creatures.
True Strike has a target of The Character and is a 1st level spell so it will work. Mirror image also has a target of The Character so it will also work.
However, Fireball has an area of effect so you could not make a Fireball potion.

Sure would be funny though. :D

Note that you can make a potions of Magic Missile, Charm Person, Shocking Grasp, Ghoul Touch, Hold Person, Suggestion, and Slow. Just that whoever drank the potion would be the target of the spell.

It seems like a fireball in a bottle would be a great idea. Talk about a Molotov cocktail!!

I like some of the alternate potions in the Book of Eldritch Might II, especially the idea of the Summon Monster spells being "monsters in a bottle."

#1: That would make one heck of a grenade.

Wizard: "Fire in the hole!" *throws a fireball potion*
Fighter: "What the heck does that crazy mage think he's- *hits the deck as the potion explodes 50 feet away* doing?! *blinks in surprise*

#2: Monsters in a bottle... Reminiscent of Pokémon. The thoughts... *shudders* Thank goodness they don't put 'em in stained glass colored red and white...

bombs

For my home campaign, I created a Master Alchemist prestige class to use instead of the Candle Caster. It is mostly the same as a Candle Caster that uses potions instead of candles. Rather than gaining the unfettered candle ability, they gain the ability to make potions of area affect spells (bomb in effect). The alchemist must add one final catalyst to activate the spell, so it can be bad if they are disabled after they activate a potion-bomb, but before they throw it.

Throwing fireball potions sounds like great fun, but make sure you have a good arm and the bottle makes it beyond the radius. Besides, I recently played Gauntlet on the xBox and throwing potions was great fun in that, so why not in DnD? (other than because of the rules)
